Scorpion's newest offering onto the helmet market fills a gap in the Scorpion lineup for an entry-to-mid-level aggressive street riding and sport touring lid that packs in all the high-end features of its big brother helmet, the EXO-1000. The Scorpion EXO-500 Helmet, at a price point under $200, is loaded with features and functionality and is simply an excellent choice for the rider not looking to break the bank, but seeking a comfortable, protective and high-performance helmet.
A lightweight advanced polycarbonate composite shell, the EXO-500 is aero-tuned and wind-tunnel tested for premier aerodynamic performance and stability at speed. Internally, the brand new Kwikwick2 comfort liner system guarantees comfort, as it is softer and faster wicking than its first iteration. It is comfortable against the face, hypoallergenic, fully removable and washable. Also, the comfort straps on the closure system are also fully removable and washable, and we all know how funky those can get. Moving on to airflow, the EXO-500 features an open/ close chin vent with dual chimney intakes and dual chimney exhaust vents. There are also passive winglet vents that suck hot air out of the helmet. All of the vents are channeled directly through the EPS liner for maximum airflow.
The Scorpion EXO-500 also uses an EverClear fog-free face shield and Scorpion is one of the best in the business at manufacturing no-fog shields. It utilizes the SpeedShift quick shield change system which is one of the fastest we've seen on any helmet. Internally, you've also got the SpeedView retractable sun visor system, which has an anti-fog treatment on both sides, and is extremely convenient when the glare gets overwhelming. One of our favorite features of the EXO-500 is the AirFit cheek pad inflation system. An easy-to-operate pump-and-release button system inflates two bladders tucked behind the cheekpads to ensure perfect fit and comfort; they allow you to get the snuggest fit, which is of critical importance. Upon deflation, the helmet is easy to take off as well.
A few more features that we like about this helmet: triple density foam cheek pads for maximum comfort; three shell sizes so as the helmet size increases, the shell does as well so you'll never have excess helmet with a bigger liner system; a quick release chin strap system that operates as a double d-ring closure with a snap to eliminate excess strap flapping; and finally, Scorpion's three-year warranty.
Another winner in the Scorpion lineup, the Scorpion EXO-500 Helmet is going to be a prime choice for the aggressive street rider and long-distance sport tourer. To see more like it, visit our Sportbike Helmets section at RevZilla.com.
