Icon Patrol Waterproof Jacket and Pants Video Review

Answering the call of the sport touring rider seeking all-season all-weather waterproof gear, Icon released the Patrol series for the Fall of 2010. With this line, all the Icon sport touring loyalists that don't want to leave their bikes in the garage on foul weather days will be extremely pleased. The Icon Patrol Waterproof Jacket and Icon Patrol Waterproof Pants will effortlessly combat all modes of precipitation that Mother Nature may have in store at any given time. Combined with the Icon Patrol Waterproof Gloves and Icon Patrol Waterproof Boots, you have a top-to-bottom fully waterproof and breathable outfit to get you through any riding conditions that by far represents Icon's most technically-advanced garment to date.

Here is our Icon Patrol Waterproof Jacket and Pants Video Review:

Constructed from a high-denier nylon textile fabric with heavyweight ballistic nylon impact reinforcements, the Icon Patrol Jacket and Pants have a built-in waterproof breathable membrane and a completely seam-sealed chassis. For protection from impact, there is removable Icon CE Rated Field Armor in the shoulders, elbows, knees and hips. There is also a dual density back pad that can be upgraded to Icon's Stryker CE Back Protector for added armor. There is a removable Thermolite quilted liner that can be quickly removed when the mercury rises. For temperature versatility, there are multiple intake and exhaust vents which can be opened during the hotter seasons and vent directly to the skin when the liner is out.

Both the jacket and pants utilize 100% water-resistant YKK zippers in addition to magnetic storm flap closures on all main entry points. These magnetic closures are something we'd seen in beta form for a couple of years, but this is one of the first truly successful applications we've seen and it's pretty epic. Running along the main storm cuff of the jacket and the full-length side zippers on the pants, the magnetic flaps whip themselves into place and the connection is instantly made. Between the jacket and the pants there are 18 total cargo storage pockets in addition to a removable pocket for a hydration system (the system can be purchased separately). For visibility, both the jacket and pants are inserted with strategically placed 3M Scotchlite paneling.

Small details like the double-reinforcement stitching in high-wear areas just shows how much detail Icon put into this outfit. The jacket is available in four colors, and the pants in two, and both come in a hi-vis yellow color that meets US Military specifications. One detail to note on the pants: they are sized and designed to be worn as overpants. Be sure to consult the size chart and understand that if you buy your normal size, they will fit large enough to accommodate a pair of jeans or a base and mid layer. If you plan on wearing the pants commando, make sure to order a size down. Also, since they are designed as overpants, they do not have a thermal liner. Make sure to take that into consideration when figuring out exactly how you'll utilize them.

Icon has hit another home run this season with their Fall 2010 line. Urban sport riders and stylish-minded touring riders will be pleased with the brand new Patrol line of all-weather gear. It will get you through the harshest of weather conditions and look good doing so. To see all the new product, check out the full Icon Fall 2010 gear lineup. Icon Patrol All-Weather Gear

Brand new for this Fall, Icon has released a line of products designed to get you through the toughest of riding conditions. With the Icon Patrol All-Weather Gear, they've utilized waterproof breathable technologies coupled with high-denier fabrics to create their highest-level of technical textile gear to date. Check out the video below from Icon that highlights the features and benefits of the Icon Patrol Waterproof Jacket, Icon Patrol Waterproof Pants, and Icon Patrol Waterproof Gloves.

Both the jacket and pants feature a waterproof seam-sealed nylon textile chassis for superior waterproofing. CE rated Field Armor lives in the shoulders, elbows, hips and knees while the dual-density foam back pad is upgradeable to the Icon CE level 2 Stryker back protector. YKK waterproof zippers and magnetic storm flap closures ensure the waterproof elements of these garments. The 3M scotchlite paneling glows extremely bright when lights hit it ensuring that you'll be seen during grey rainy rides. The jacket has a total of twelve storage pockets for plenty of cargo carrying. It also features a removable hydration pocket that can be filled with a water bladder. The Thermolite insulated liner provides warmth but can be taken out during warm weather
rides, combining with the intake and exhaust ventilation
scheme to keep you cool.

For added protection, there are heavyweight ballistic nylon impact panels. Both the jacket and pants feature a hi-viz yellow version that meets US Military PPE specifications for hi-visibility. The pants feature six storage pockets for added cargo carrying and full-length zippers along the sides of the legs for easy in and out. They also have a removable suspender system for those who like to utilize that. Keep in mind that these pants are designed to fit as overpants, so if you wear a size 32 pant, purchase the 32 if you plan to wear them as overpants; if you'll rock them commando, buy one size smaller, in this case, a 30.

The Icon Patrol Waterproof Gloves are constructed from waterproof textile with an abrasion-resistant Battlehide goatskin palm. The goatskin provides suppleness in addition to superior tactile feel for using the controls. The back of the hand has reinforced rubber armor in the knuckles in addition to a reflective graphics package for visibility. There is pre-curving for comfort and to reduce fatigue from long-term riding. Finally, there is a visor wiper built into the left index finger for quick cleans of the shield.

Here is the Icon video that details the Icon Patrol Waterproof Boots:

Icon Patrol Waterproof Boots are constructed from a durable leather upper with a 100% waterproof membrane. The sole is slip-resistant with an axialmetric steel shank for support. There is built-in internal ankle protection and shifter interface nubs atop the toe box. The dual adjustable stabilizer straps utilize aluminum positive-lock buckles to create an excellent ratcheting adjustability system for proper fit. The lacing system is hidden underneath a leather panel, keeping your laces safely and securely out of the way. It also looks pretty awesome to have the laces hidden.

This new line of Icon Fall 2010 Gear looks like a home run to us. We're pretty excited to hear feedback on the Patrol line as it starts to come into stock. Stay tuned for more new Icon gear details.

Fall 2010 Icon Waterproof Textile Gear Guide

The newest foray for Icon in their 2010 Fall Gear lineup is Icon Waterproof Textile Gear. Leading out of the gate is the Icon Patrol Waterproof Jacket and the Icon Patrol Waterproof Overpants. This combo couples with the Icon Patrol Waterproof Gloves and you become immune to the elements. The two other brand new products are the Icon PDX Waterproof Shell which pops over your jacket and the Icon PDX Waterproof Bib, pants with suspenders made exclusively to keep you dry.

Starting off with the Icon Patrol Waterproof Jacket and Icon Patrol Waterproof Pants, this outfit is the most technical all-weather textile product that Icon has produced to date. The Icon Patrol utilizes a seam-sealed waterproof nylon chassis with waterproof YKK zippers and a magnetic storm flap. Removable CE rated Field Armor provide impact protection and the jacket has an upgradeable dual density foam back pad that can easily be swapped for the Stryker CE back protector. The jacket features a ton of intake and exhaust vents, a removable hydration pocket and a removable Thermolite insulated liner.

Between the jacket and pants, there is a ton of storage with 12 pockets in the jacket alone. 3M Scotchlite reflective panels ensure that you will always be visible no matter how dark it is outside. Both the jacket and pants are available in US Military PPE Hi-Vis spec and the pants feature a removable suspender system to make these a true overpant. Icon has thrown their R&D department and this outfit and it is going to stand up to any elements that mother nature will throw at you.

Complementing the Icon Patrol Waterproof Jacket & Pants is the Icon Patrol Waterproof Glove. They feature a fully waterproof textile chassis with highly abrasion-resistant premium grade Battlehide Goatskin on the palm for extreme durability and optimal tactility. Reinforced rubber knuckle armor provides superb protection and the reflective paneling ensures visibility. Lastly, one of our favorite touches is the visor wiper system on the thumb. The Icon Patrol Waterproof Glove is pre-curved in both the palms and the fingers.

Moving along to the oversuit department, the Icon PDX Waterproof Shell goes over your jacket while the Icon PDX Waterproof Bib pants go atop your motorcycle pants and you're immediately covered from the elements. Both the Icon PDX jacket and pants feature Tasloc Ripsop Nylon and YKK waterproof zippers for the best in waterproofing. They built this outfit in always-soaked Portland, Oregon so you can be assured that it offers top-of-the-pile performance.

The jacket features a roll and tuck away hood that seals up against your neck and can cover your head when you take the helmet off. The pants feature cargo pockets and adjustable bib straps with removable stirrups at the bottom, depending on your preference. Both the Icon PDX Waterproof jacket and the Icon PDX Waterproof pants feature a comfort mesh liner and are available in US Military PPE Hi-Vis specifications.

We are impressed to say the least with this new line of Fall 2010 Icon Gear. They really have taken their game to the next level and are making themselves even more of a contender in the world of sportbike and street gear. Stay tuned because we have a lot more to come from Icon!
