AGV Sport Telluride Jacket & Pants Review

AGV Sport doesn't just do racing, sport and street gear. They also produce high-quality multi-season all-weather waterproof gear designed for long-distance touring and adventure at very reasonable prices. The AGV Sport Telluride Jacket and AGV Sport Telluride Pants represent the pinnacle of their achievements in this realm. If you don't know the AGV Sport story yet, the long and short of it is that they're a company who has been producing high-performance yet affordable motorcycle gear built by riders for riders for over a quarter of a century. The quality in design and construction speaks for itself as they consistently go head-to-head with much higher-priced brands and perform at the same level as those brands in third-party tests.

First is our AGV Sport Telluride Jacket Review:

The AGV Sport Telluride Jacket is a 3/4 length touring and adventure jacket designed to get you through every sort of weather condition during the Fall, Winter and Spring seasons. The exterior shell is an abrasion resistant 600D ballistic nylon with a waterproof breathable membrane sandwiched between the shell and the liner. In addition, there is a removable washable quilted thermal liner that will keep you warm in the cold, but can be taken out and extend this jacket into the hotter temperature ranges. The zip open vents at the chest provide air intake and the rear exhaust vents suck the hot air through and away from your body. The Telluride features CE rated dual density armor in the shoulders and elbows with an 8mm foam back bad that can
be upgraded to a CE rated back protector. As with all AGV Sport gear, the main seams are multiple stitched for the highest degree of tear resistance and all zippers used are YKK. To protect the main connection and maintain waterproofing, there is a double storm flap that channels water away from the garment. The moisture wicking microfleece comfort collar also features a spring-loaded snap at the collar to lock it down when riding with the neck open. Pockets abound in this jacket, with four waterproof front cargo pockets, two chest pockets, a pocket on the left sleeve, and a large game pouch that can house the quilted liner when not in use. The jacket also features loads of adjustability to make sure you're cinched down properly: the wrist, forearm, bicep and waist all feature adjusters for the perfect fit. Finally, reflective piping keeps you visible and the waist connection zipper allows for attachment to all-weather pants. Simply put, a feature-loaded all-weather jacket at an extraordinarily reasonable price point.

Next is our AGV Sport Telluride Pants Review:

A true four-season all-weather pant option to complement any AGV Sport textile jacket, the AGV Sport Telluride Pants are a 600D exterior shell with a removable double liner system offering loads of versatility. The removable waterproof breathable liner and removable quilted thermal liner can both be used independently of one another, so for the hot days, they're both out and the intake/exhaust vents zip open for solid airflow, but on cold wet rides, they stay in and protect you from both the temperature and precipitation. The pants feature ballistic nylon reinforcements in impact areas with CE rated knee armor and memory foam hip and lower back padding. Again, as with the entire AGV Sport
line, heavy duty stitching is used in all seams to resist tearing and protect from abrasion. Elasticated stretch panels are utilized above the knees and at the small of the back to allow for unrestricted movement. YKK zippers are used throughout this pant with a double reinforced metal slide closure at the waist. The adjustable velcro and zippered cuff closure is backed by a gaiter to maintain waterproofing. Finally, adjustable velcro at the hips allows for the most snug and proper fit while reflective piping in strategic locations lets you be seen for safety during night time rides.

Dainese Bruce Gore-Tex Jacket & Pants Review

The Dainese Bruce Gore-Tex Jacket and Pants provide the all-weather all-season weatherproofing that is necessary for long-distance touring rides. They also are made in the classic Dainese vein: motorcycle protection meets high style. Let's face it, Dainese is basically the Armani of the motorcycle world. You'll be protected and comfortable, with the fashion to match.

Check out our Dainese Bruce Gore-Tex Jacket and Pants Review:

The outer shell of the Bruce Jacket and Pants is a high-denier Cordura Comfort fabric that offers high abrasion resistance. Bonded to that shell is a Gore-Tex membrane, completely waterproof and windproof, and providing the highest level of breathability of any waterproof membrane on the market. The shell is also treated with durable water repellent which ensures that water will bead up and roll off and dry extremely quickly. The main connection zipper on the jacket is protected by a double waterproof strip with a rain gutter system to keep water out. Within this outfit is CE rated protection in the shoulders, elbows and knees, and there are pockets in the chest and back to house CE rated protection. There are additional foam pad protectors in the hips for protection.

Let's talk temperature versatility on this outfit. When it's cold outside, the removable quilted thermal liners in the jacket and pants will provide good insulation. There is also a thermal collar to insulate your neck. When the mercury rises, you can quickly remove both the liners and open up the ventilation panels. There are vents on the chest and thighs that will flow a good amount of air while riding. For ergonomics, there is accordion stretch paneling at the backs of the arms, fronts of knees, and the shoulders that wraps under the torso for ease of movement. Micro-reflective paneling throughout the jacket and pants ensures night time visibility while multiple adjustment zones, including wrist, waist (on jacket and pants) and neck means you can achieve the perfect touring fit.

Designed for the stylish long-distance sport touring rider, the Dainese Bruce Gore-Tex Jacket and Dainese Bruce Gore-Tex Pants will keep you covered no matter the conditions. To see similar gear, visit our All Weather Motorcycle Jackets and All Weather Motorcycle Pants sections.

Firstgear TPG Escape Pants Review

As part of their new line of gear for Fall 2010, Firstgear released the brand new Firstgear TPG Escape Pants. Previous iterations of these pants were cut poorly with very little articulation and a boxy-shape. This made them pretty uncomfortable especially over the course of the long-distance rides they were designed to tackle. They had already developed jacket ready to compete with European brands in the bombproof ADV touring beast Firstgear TPG Rainier Jacket and they needed the pants to go along with it. With a complete overall and redesign from the bottom up, the TPG Escapes are the perfect mate for the Rainier and an excellent option for the Adventure Tourer.

Here's our full Firstgear TPG Escape Pants Review:

The Firstgear TPG Escape Pants are a true four-season, all-weather pant designed for Adventure and Sport Touring. They come in both mens' and womens' specific cuts and are a great match for the aforementioned Rainier for men or the Firstgear TPG Monarch Jacket for women. These pants will get you through any form of precipitation and a full range of temperatures, performing spectacularly under any conditions. Now let's move on to why we're so high on these pants.

In the last version, Firstgear was using basic Knox CE rated knee and hip armor but for the new version they upgraded to d3o molecular-level armor. For those unaware, d3o utilizes the newest technologies for motorcycle protection. It is soft, flexible, lightweight and extremely comfortable to wear within your gear, but upon impact it becomes rigid and resilient, dispersing all impact energy across the surface area of the armor. It's next-level, straight up. The fitment and cut of the new Escapes is also an enormous upgrade over the previous model. The old model was extremely flat and boxy in its cut; the new version offers much more flexibility and much better comfort over the course of long rides.
Liner Pants

Firstgear also improved the waterproofing of these pants. It was always built into the shell, but this model uses the Hypertex Plus Waterproof Breathable membrane rather than regular Hypertex. The Hypertex Plus membrane makes these pants 2x as waterproof breathable over extended rides as they were before. With the membrane built into the shell, you know you'll be covered whether you have the thermal liner in or not. Which brings us to the inner pant liner that is standalone and can be worn as a destination layer once you hop off the bike. The pants use two-ounce fiberfill insulation for excellent thermal qualities and have articulation in the knee and seat for comfort. They have two front pockets styled like jeans pockets and just generally look stylish when you're at your destination.

Let's run through the other features of the TPG Escapes:

  • 600D Nylon Exterior with Teramid Reinforced Kevlar Underlays
  • YKK Rubberized Zippers Throughout for Waterproofing
  • Two large intake vents; four storage pockets
  • Side Zips extend above knees for easy on/off; protected by internal storm flap with rain gutter
  • Elasticized internal storm cuff with silicone grip wraps around boot to keep moisture out
  • Ratcheting waist adjustments
  • Reflective paneling throughout
  • Heat-resistant anti-wear material on inner legs
  • 10" Connection Zipper
  • 2-year crash protection policy
As we've said in previous posts, we're extremely excited and impressed with the Firstgear Fall 2010 Gear lineup. To see more pants like this, visit our All Weather Motorcycle Pants page.
