Icon Compound Mesh Overpants

Sometimes fashion and protection demand leather, but climate and comfort demand mesh. On those days, wear the ICON Compound Mesh Overpants. Built with a balance of Fighter Mesh panels and premium grade cowhide, the Compound Mesh Overpants are cooler than Leather Motorcycle Pants, more protective than mesh pants, and easier to don then either, due to dual full-length side-entry zippers. The ratchet waist closure and critical expansion panels make the fit on these overpants both flexible and comfortable.

For the cooler climates, this two-fold approach is also available in textile and leather, simply named the ICON Compound Overpants. The same principles apply, using textile portions in place of mesh. Both of these overpants feature removable CE rated impact protectors in the knees that are also fully adjustable.

These overpants are part of an entire new ICON Compound line-up that all feature a mesh/textile and leather construction. In addition to the pants, you will also find two Jackets, Short Gloves, and Long Gloves.

Icon Alliance Helmet Review

Icon came out with a host of new product for the Fall of 2010 and one of our favorite products is the brand new Icon Alliance Helmet. They took the strong building blocks already in place for the Icon Alliance SSR and made some major upgrades. The new Alliance boasts upgraded ventilation, an improved shield, and a new headform. Icon already had an extremely successful entry-to-mid-level sportbike helmet with the Alliance SSR but for this year they decided to fix some slight issues, making major improvements by doing so. The new Icon Alliance has more of a long oval headform (closer to the Icon Airframe) than its predecessor. This translates to better comfort and ergonomics over the long term. Icon also improved the ventilation scheme on the Alliance. The main intake channels have grown to 20mm and now channel directly through the EPS for much better airflow. They also modified the positioning of the other vents - chin, winglet, exhaust - to improve the overall venting. While the Alliance SSR used a stock Icon shield, the new Alliance upgrades to the Icon ProShield, which is fog-free and features graphic (or solid) sideplates. The final upgrade is the Icon ProLock shield lock system, which keeps the shield completely closed.

New Fall 2010 Icon Alliance Helmet

For the Fall of 2010, Icon dropped the 'SSR' from the name and came out with a product far superior to its predecessor. The Icon Alliance Helmet touts a feature-set that pulls directly from Icon's upper-echelon helmets, the Icon Airframe Helmet and Icon Domain Helmet, and is rarely seen at the sub-$200 price point. The helmet pictured at the right is the Icon Alliance Redeemer Helmet.

First and foremost: comfort. At the behest of fans of the Icon Alliance SSR, Icon reshaped the EPS liner of the helmet creating a more long oval head shape. Anyone complaining about pressure points on the forehead or back of head need not worry anymore as the new Alliance is more ergonomic and will be more comfortable for a wider swath of riders. The two helmets above are the Icon Alliance Operator Helmet (left) and the Icon Alliance Hi-Viz Helmet (right).

The new model of the Alliance also features a much-upgraded ventilation system. With twin channel supervents, as referred to by Icon, the 20mm intakes rush into the helmet and are sucked out through massive exhaust vents. This creates Venturi Effect airflow and will keep you even cooler at speed. Also redesigned is the chin vent which will offer better airflow and defogging properties than the previous model. The last major upgrade is the shield. For the Icon Alliance, they upgraded from their basic shield to the Icon ProShield which offers a massive eyeport, is fog-free and antiscratch and utilizes Icon's ProLock system, a tool-free shield change mechanism.

All of these upgrades combine to create an all-world safety standard helmet, certified DOT, ECE, SG, and SAI. At this price point, Icon integrated many features from $300+ dollar helmets and has set the bar even higher for a helmet in the $100-$200 range.
