Icon 1000 Vigilante & Overlord Reaver: Feet Sweeping Gerard ButlerBears

Heyyyy Oooohhh! Icon is back at it and bringing us some new goodies we can add to our trousseau, I mean wardrobe. Wait a second, while we’re here, no one is getting married in their Icon gear… are they? I am sure Google could yield some promising results somewhere. What are we talking about again? Oh yeah, Icon is bringing us some new jackets and two of which are the Icon 1000 Vigilante Stickup and the Icon Overlord Reaver Jacket which I will actually talk about soon if you dare to let your eyes continue reading this roller coaster of information.

I am sure we are all familiar with the Icon 1000 Vigilante Jacket. Icon has taken this jacket a step further. Oh yes. The 1000 Vigilante Stickup is as mean as a snake, with the looks of Chris Hemsworth and the animal magnetism of the elusively reclusive Gerard ButlerBear. The jacket will come equipped with D30 throughout the shoulders, elbows, and back. It will also have a removable insulated vest liner for those colder rides. This jacket will be a great option for those riders looking for good protection, yet without foregoing that look of a total bada$$.

Icon 1000 Vigilante Jacket Review:

“There are two types of people in the world. Those who wear skulls, and those who have their lovers swept off their feet by people who wear skulls”. Do I really need to say more? If you are looking to do some feet-sweeping-off-of, I have the jacket for you. The Icon Overlord Reaver Jacket will come equipped with some D30 impact protection in the shoulders, elbows, and back. This jacket will also come with a insulated, removable vest liner which is always a nice addition to have with your riding jacket. Did I mention the thumb loops? Because they are there. Verified, of-this-world, tangible thumb loops. All jokes aside, this jacket will be a great contender for those looking to step up their game without breaking the bank. Not a bad set of criteria to fill.

Icon Overlord Reaver Jacket Review:

We discuss marriage, taking people off of their feet by way of sweeping, and Grizzly Gerard ButlerBear. Yeah, I think that about does it. If you are looking to upgrade your current gear closet, or if perhaps you are a new rider that just started your journey on two wheels, I would recommend taking a gander at the Icon 1000 Vigilante Stickup and Overlord Reaver Jacket.

Keep on keep’n on,

Icon Airframe Pro Graphics: Construct and Rubatone

As we all know, sequels are incredibly hard to pull off, and Icon has their work cut out for them with the new Icon Airframe Pro helmets. The original Airframe helmet punched way above its weight and offered a high quality composite-construction helmet at a reasonable price point. As the flagship helmet in Icon’s line up, the Airframe Pro has some rather large shoes to fill.

Icon Airframe Pro Rubatone Motorcycle Helmet

For the difficult second album, Icon decided to pull out all the stops and really push the Airframe Pro upmarket. The new helmet still uses a composite construction and meets DOT and ECE 22-05 safety standards just like the outgoing Airframe. The differences end there though with an aggressive shell shape that facilitates riding in a full tuck position. The number of shell sizes available grows by one, and there are now four unique shell sizes that reduce the weight and drag of the helmet. There is also a deep cutout at the back of the neck roll that reduces interference with racing jacket humps. Beyond that, the interior now has a five-piece liner with adjustable components for fine-tuning the fit, and there are 27 combinations with the stock liner.

Icon Airframe Pro Construct Helmet Review:

If all that sounds like a track helmet to you, that’s because it really is. The adjustable interior liner is something we are really only used to seeing on Arai and AGV helmets, while the neck roll cut-out just screams track days! The best part is, it really works! We did some modest in-house testing, and the Airframe Pro was much quieter on an R6 than in an upright riding position on a Tiger.

Icon is launching the Airframe Pro with two graphics, and the first one is the staple Rubatone finish. For those new to Icon helmets, the Rubatone finish is a slightly rubberized take on the traditional matte black paint finish. With this non-reflective finish, the Icon Airframe Rubatone Helmet will be the perfect option for blacked-out bikes on bike nights, or midnight runs.

Icon Airframe Pro Construct Motorcycle Helmet

The second launch graphic is the Icon Airframe Pro Construct Helmet. Another Icon favorite, the Construct graphic allows the helmet to show off the goods. The construction is laid out for all to see, with just a clear coat sprayed on the composite fibers of the shell. The Construct will be available in White (Clear) and Black. With this much precision going into the construction of the Airframe Pro, it would be a shame not to show that off!

When Icon says this helmet is “optimized for the Angle of Attack,” they aren’t kidding. Only time will tell if the Airframe Pro is as popular as its predecessor was, but we have high hopes!

Ride Safe Out There, and Have Fun!

Icon Boots: 1000 Elsinore HP and Accelerant

Icon is at it again, with their diverse range of style and functionality.  They have always been one to blend the lines of form and function.  Whether you're sideways drifting with your smoke bomb tires, or blasting through the urban jungle on your cafe racer, Icon knows what's up.

Icon 1000 Elsinore HP Motorcycle BootsThe Icon 1000 Elsinore HP Boots punch you and everyone else around you in the face with pure Mad Maxian style, harking back to the old school dirt boots of yesterday.  Seriously, you cannot wear these boots without at least one compliment from a stranger.  These boots are cool, but the best part is, they do not skimp on quality.  Remember when men were men, and goods were made to last?  Yea, so does Icon, and that is what they had in mind when they came out with the newest version of the Elsinore.  The super tall 12" top grain leather, cast metal buckles and full Goodyear welt means these boots will keep kickin' for years to come.  Who needs to throw out boots and get new ones, when you can get these resolved, like the days when people cared about their craft and what they made.

Icon 1000 Elsinore HP Boots Review:

Icon Accelerant Motorcycle Boots

Then you have the Icon Accelerant Boots, which is the complete opposite end of the style spectrum, but just as in-your-face with style and quality.  Throw your Shinko Smoke Bomb Tires on the bike, and hope your swing arm is already extended, because these boots just look fast, and expect to get sideways around a corner.  The Leather chassis with Cordura reinforced zones are ready for those occasional scrapes with asphalt, since they know how hard you'll be leaning.  Push it to the limit, knowing the D3O ankle protectors will do their magical phase changing job to keep your ankles safe.

Icon Accelerant Boots Review:

Usually, when you see such extreme differences with gear styles, you'd think there would be some compromises.  How could the Icon Team get it right in the Cafe scene, while still knowing how to throw down in the world of Sport Bikes, but somehow, they came through.  The Icon 1000 crew knows how to make you look good on that old Cafe or Harley, and the sport boot world keeps advancing without a moment's hesitation.

Icon Sweet Dreams: Fear the Pegasus

Tony - Content Coordinator

If there is one thing that Icon is known for, being low-key is not that thing. They are loud. They are vibrant. They are all about attention-grabbing graphics that stand out. They also are among the best when it comes to coordinating that style throughout an entire range of gear. Icon goes the extra mile when developing outfits that allow riders to find a style that they like, and incorporate it throughout their riding regalia. The new Sweet Dreams lineup is a perfect example of that ethos in action.

Icon Airmada Sweet Dreams Motorcycle HelmetThe new Icon Airmada Sweet Dreams Helmet sets the tone for the fantastical flighted unicorn of freedom that is come throughout the rest of the gear to follow in this line. As one of their flagship helmets and a hugely popular choice for a variety of riders, the Airmada frame provides an industry-leading tone from which the Sweet Dreams graphic builds upon. Aside from the great quality and comfort of the Airmada helmet itself, the Sweet Dreams graphic is its own brand of mind-tripping, inter-dimensional, diamond-eyed unicorn magic. With a plethora of features such as shield-locking mechanism, superior aerodynamics, and top-tier ventilation, along with the powerfully pink styling, the Airmada Sweet Dreams helmet is bathed in Icon swagger.

Icon Airmada Sweet Dreams Helmet Review:

Icon Women's Overlord Sweet Dreams Motorcycle Jacket

Moving down the body, the Icon Overlord Sweet Dreams Jacket has been specifically designed not only to match the styling of the Sweet Dreams helmet, and gloves, but also for the ergonomics of a more feminine fame. Constructed for female riders, the Women’s Overlord Sweet Dreams jacket really offers a great deal of features and styling at a non cost-prohibitive price. The Attack Fit styling offers a sleek, streamlined styling to go along with the lively Pink colorway. For a lightweight, warm-weather ladies sport jacket, the Womens Overlord Sweet Dreams motorcycle jacket is on point.

Icon Women's Anthem Sweet Dreams Motorcycle GlovesRounding things out for the upper-half of the body, the Icon Anthem Sweet Dreams Gloves are a specialized cut that have been formed for the women riders out there. As with the rest of the Icon Women’s gear, the Sweet Dreams gloves have taken into account the general differences in Womens and Mens hands and have been crafted to specifically fit the former. These gloves are incredibly lightweight for summer riding and are backed by D3O knuckle protectors for added protection. Oh yeah, and they also prominently feature that powerful pegasus unicorn that makes the Sweet Dreams graphics her home.

All in, the Sweet Dreams lineup from Icon is a comprehensive moto-outfit that comes together to feature some highly unique designs. With a helmet, jacket, and gloves that have all been fitted with the Sweet Dreams aesthetic, there is plenty to get excited about with the latest releases of Icon.

Icon Airframe Pro Carbon Graphics: Halo & Ghost Carbon

Tony - Content Coordinator

Revolutionizing a, well, icon. That is what happened once the Airframe Pro was introduced. Following up one of the most popular motorcycle helmets of the past few years is not an easy undertaking. To take it a step further, the Airframe Pro is also coming in Carbon, and with some hot graphics at that.
Icon Airframe Pro Halo Carbon Motorcycle Helmet
The new Icon Airframe Pro Halo Carbon Helmet is the top of the line graphic that comes on the highest-end helmet in Icon’s line up. The Pro Carbon is an insanely light, hyper-aerodynamic upgrade to an update, and it is really making some noise throughout the industry. The Halo graphic adds a bit of visual vibrancy through swooping Red and Blue wisps that have been set against the high-gloss Carbon Fiber shell.

Icon Airframe Pro Ghost Carbon Motorcycle HelmetFor the rider who is looking for all of that new Airframe  Carbon goodness, yet prefers a more low-key styling, the Icon Airframe Pro Ghost Carbon Helmet is here for you. This helmet offers all of the world-class features of the new Airframe Pro Carbon, and yet is confident enough in itself that it remains subdued in a ghosted frost. From the handmade 4Tress carbon fiber shell that meets both DOT and ECE safety certifications, to the specially crafted rear neck roll that allows for a better interface with gear while in the tuck position, the Airframe Ghost Pro Carbon helmet is premium in every sense of the word.

Getting a new helmet is fun. Getting a new helmet that is new to the world is fun-er. Getting a new helmet that is new to the world and is total Carbon fiber awesomeness is fun-est.

Have fun out there, be safe, and as always…

Enjoy the ride,

Icon Airframe Pro Graphics: Halo, Pharaoh, and Pleasuredome 2

Tony - Content Coordinator

Getting the newest helmet on the market is fun. Getting the newest helmet on the market that is also a complete juggernaut of the industry that has more than lived up to the hype is even better. Getting each of those things in a helmet with the right graphical assortment of design elements to fit your style and personal aesthetic is the best. That is what Icon does. Icon makes great helmets, with top-notch features, and with totally unique graphics. To further advance their jump into the Airframe Pro helmet, Icon has released a few new graphical options for stylistic support.
Icon Airframe Pro Halo Motorcycle Helmet
The new Icon Airframe Pro Halo Helmet is the most traditional in style. With the option to go with Black, Red, Green, or Blue highlights, Icon has allowed for the coordination between your bike brand of choice and your new lid. The Halo graphic is subtle by Icon standards and is just that, a graphic. In comparison to some of the other helmets from Icon that feature more robust scenes throughout, the Airframe Pro Halo helmet allows the light touch of color blast to the aft-ward portion. This helmet allows the new line and sleek aerodynamics of this totally redesigned helmet be the focal point while the color selection acts as an added jolt.

Icon Airframe Pro Halo Helmet Review:

As subtle as the Halo graphic is, the next two editions to the world of Icon graphics are equally as in-your-face.
Icon Airframe Pro Pharaoh Motorcycle Helmet
The Icon Airframe Pro Pharaoh Helmet is designed, as you might suspect, to really come hard with the feel of an ancient king-of-the-land theme. The Pharaoh graphic is nothing if it is not highly vibrant. Adorned with the Gold and glimmer that comes with the most powerful rulers of an ancient world, the Pharaoh graphic is its own brand of magically mystic. From the skull-ed out mummy dome on the back of the helmet to the Laser Blue, icey-cold gaze of a pair of menacing eyes that reside above the brow, this is a helmet steeped in an ancient and mysterious power for a go-fast kind of rider.

Icon Airframe Pro Pharaoh Helmet Review:

Icon Airframe Pro Pleasuredome 2 Motorcycle HelmetSo, ummmm, yeah… the Icon Airframe Pro Pleasuredome 2 Helmet. It is, well, ughhhh, it’s a statement maker for sure. With all of the great features of the new Airframe 2 helmet such as a handcrafted composite shell, super aerodynamic shell shape, and sculpted neck roll for less interference while in the tuck position, the Pleasuredome 2 graphic isn’t the only thing about this lid that is robust. That being said, the graphic itself is what sets this helmet apart and puts it in a class of its own. Vivacious astronauts, skeletal space explorers, and total intergalactic robot anarchy abound throughout the Pleasuredome 2.

Icon Airframe Pro Pleasuredome 2 Helmet Review:

Icon makes great helmets. Icon makes great graphics. The Airframe Pro motorcycle helmet and the introduction of the entire lineup of Icon Airframe Pro Helmets stand as a representation of both.

Have fun out there, be safe, and as always...

Icon Raiden Alcan Gloves: High Value for Low Temperatures

When Icon launched their line of Raiden gear this past spring, cold weather gloves were mysteriously absent. Now we know why, as Icon has just announced the Icon Raiden Alcan Gloves to keep riders going as the temperatures start to drop, and the foliage gets noticeably more colorful.

Icon Raiden Alcan Motorcycle GlovesIcon has spent a lot of time in a variety of climates while filming their Raiden adventures. As a result, they knew exactly what to put into the new Raiden Alcan Gloves to make riders happy. First off, unlike the majority of cold weather gloves out there, these Alcan gloves actually include armor! We are used to seeing just some temperfoam, but these gloves are using a TPR outer knuckle, with D3O armor underneath. Great stuff!

The Icon Raiden Alcan Gloves use a tried and true Hipora waterproof liner, and are insulated as well. The revised gauntlet closure is designed to go under the cuff of a jacket, which is great news for riders tired of rain flowing down jacket sleeves and into the top of gloves. The suede palm adds some extra grip on the controls, and built-in neoprene panels allow for comfort and flexibility.

Icon Raiden Alcan Gloves Review:

The Icon Raiden Alcan Gloves come in at a very attractive price point, and offer excellent bang for the buck that will put the pressure on some higher-priced competitors. This fall and winter, stretch your riding season with the Raiden Alcan Gloves!

Icon Deadfall: Jabronis Need Not Apply

Today Icon unveiled their newest graphic in the Raiden line up of summer gear.  The Deadfall graphic pays tribute to the knuckle-busting, backcountry, tree-swerving riding that has caught most of the country by storm.  This new graphic accompanies the already popular Raiden line of gear to add a bit of flare to an already well designed glove and jersey set.

Icon Raiden Deadfall Motorcycle GlovesThe new Icon Raiden Deadfall Gloves are still some of the best minimalist and comfortable gloves that will offer some protection to the rider’s knuckles.  A low-grade (yet still protective) D3O knuckle guard is well hidden on the interior of the glove, making it very hard to notice.  Icon decided to not utilize the most protective types of D3O in this area, which would have caused a bulkier-backhand and would have hindered movement.  The textile/mesh hybrid (poly-mesh) used in the glove’s fabric allows optimum air-flow throughout, with an accompanied goatskin palm to allow for less wear and more protection.  The palm also is completely seamless to avoid any sort of bunching of material or annoyance while trail carving.

Icon Raiden Deadfall Motorcycle JerseyThe Icon Raiden Deadfall Jersey is the perfect accompanying-ally to the gloves, offering the same polymesh material all throughout the jersey.  This polymesh material offers a slight bit of stretch (approximately .5” when pulled) to reduce any sort of snagging or distractions while brapping through the woods/forest/campsite.  The jersey’s diagonal shoulder seams are designed to avoid any sort of hindrance on the arms which is crucial to any rider that has their 2 wheel steed fighting back at every log and turn.  Icon also added a nice feature in the collar to avoid any sort of bunching or excess material, making two separate portions in the front and back which are not connected at the collar-bone.

Overall, the new Deadfall graphic for the Icon Raiden line-up is on par with the Icon mentality and design: inspired by and for riders who want to not only be protected while riding the backwoods, but look good at the campsite when they arrive.  Sizing for both of these items is still true to Icon’s past, I have a 43.5” chest and 9” hand measurement and the Large in both the gloves and jersey fit perfectly.

Don’t be the jabroni at your RV/campsite that doesn’t match gear because when the mud wipes off, let’s be honest, that’s all that really matters to you

Icon Hypersport Prime Hero Jacket: Be the Hero Your Bike Deserves

We all like to look badass on our bikes. I, for one, feel like a superhero when I’m decked out in full gear. Wearing my all-black gear with a smoked face shield, no one can see how un-cool I really am. Icon is known for pushing the boundary with their loud, aggressive designs and the Icon Hypersport Prime Hero Jacket is no exception. For those of you going for that superhero aesthetic, look no further.

Icon Hypersport Prime Hero Motorcycle JacketThe Icon Hypersport Prime Hero Jacket is a super aggressive jacket from a beast of a brand. This attack fit jacket has a full perforated leather chassis for maximum protection as well as integrated flex zones for ease of movement. The perforation means you can keep cool, but the jacket also comes with a thermal liner so you can keep on riding as the temperature drops. D3O armor is standard at the shoulders, elbows, and back, and external TPU Injected plates are also included. Those of you who like a little more coverage in the rear will be happy with the drop tail, and to top it all off you can connect the jacket to a matching pair of Icon Hypersport Pants.

Icon Hypersport Prime Hero Jacket Review:

Icon knows its demographic, and the Hypersport Prime Hero is bound to be a home run. You want to be noticed when riding, and if you love blasting around town tearing up the asphalt and being the moto-hero you know you are, this is the jacket for you.

Icon Variant Splintered Helmet: Out with the Old, Bring on the New

The leaves are changing and so are the graphics as we enter the Fall of 2015. Icon brings the Variant back with a fresh new Splintered graphic. Icon wanted to get away from all of the Hi-Viz and reflectivity that is so commonplace, so they designed a woodland graphic that will allow you to blend into the trees. If you look close you will see the skulls.

The Variant is all about keeping you comfortable with its premium liner and outstanding ventilation. It provides a wide eyeport and has the visor to keep roost and tree branches at bay.  The Icon Variant Splintered Helmet also meets or exceeds DOT and ECE 22-05 and has that slightly long oval fit as well. Regardless of your riding style, the Variant is a viable option that will pack a ton of style and unique swagger into a highly functional helmet that does its job both on-road and off.

Icon Variant Splintered Helmet Review:

The Variant will take you from the city streets to the forest and never miss a beat. If you are looking for a well thought out, great looking crossover helmet, look no further.  Warning, this helmet does not come with wheelie or drifting instructions!

Icon Airframe Pro Helmet - Straight to the Majors

Jon - Gear Geek

The Icon Airframe just joined the majors. Sure the Airframe has always been a solid option for a lightweight, ECE approved helmet with good air flow, but it felt like the one-of-a-kind graphics were the only distinguishing feature about the helmets. The new Icon Airframe Pro has features that are missing from their current lineup and even other manufacturers.

Icon Airframe Pro Motorcycle HelmetThe Icon Airframe Pro helmet is purpose built for an aggressive riding position. Everything about this helmet screams functionality. The neckline is contoured for the tuck position. It won't cause your jacket or race suit to bunch and become uncomfortable. The slimmer shell profile is designed to reduce mass while still meeting ECE certification. The internals feature a new five-piece liner allowing you to combine different pieces to fit your unique noggin. Four shell sizes mean the helmet is more of a custom fit for the size of your dome. Low profile vents provide airflow while reducing drag. Icon has put together a track worthy high-performance helmet.

Icon Airframe Pro Helmet Review:

The Icon Airframe Pro helmet makes the other helmets seem bush league. The Airframe Pro's new design elements make the helmet a track day staple for anyone looking to go fast. Not only will the helmet perform at speed, it will definitely look fast once Icon slathers it in their killer graphics. It's enough to start a bench clearing brawl.

Removable CE-approved armor at the knee and soft hip armor work together to augment the 1.2mm - 1.4mm thick leather outer shell and provide a solid level of protection for the track or the street. Accordion stretch panels have been incorporated for comfort and mobility, while the option of a full-circumfrance or 8” pant-to-jacket connection zipper allows you to attach these pants to your Coretech riding jacket in the way that suits you best.

Alpinestars SP-1 Gloves: Building Bridges

Tony - Content Coordinator

Why don’t we use a chainsaw when carving up a turkey? While that would certainly be something that sounds directly out of an episode of Home Improvement, and undoubtedly would amp up the holiday happenings to epic levels of exhilleration, the point is that it is overkill. While there is a place that a chainsaw works well, like … say … in the woods, and then there is a place where it does not (usually all places indoors). The same can be said for motorcycle gear. While there are some great options out there, it does not always mean that they are the best for each riding scenario that they will encounter.

Alpinestars SP-1 Motorcycle GlovesThe Alpinestars SP-1 Gloves are a great example of a transitional piece of gear that bridges the gap between extremes. As a street glove that incorporates many great features of a track glove, the specificity of purpose that can be seen in the SP1 gloves is going to translate into great dividends for sport riders who Veclro them on and hit the road. Features such as the full-grain leather, 3rd/4th finger bridge, and carbon fiber knuckle protectors are taken directly from the Astars race-grade gloves, yet the fit and finish has been toned down and more purposely built for all-day comfort on the street. Additional features include strategic ventilation, palm reinforcements, and ample accordion stretch panels for increased mobility.
Alpinestars Stella SP-1 Motorcycle Gloves
For the lady riders out there who are looking for the same functionality, yet in a more ergonomic fitment, the Alpinestars Stella SP-1 Gloves are also available. Coming in with all of the great features as the Men’s Version, the Women’s SP-1 Gloves are going to be specially designed to fit a more feminine hand. In doing so, they are going to provide a more slender cut, thus allowing female riders to make better use of the technical specificity of the SP1 blueprint.

Sometimes you don’t need a chainsaw (though, sometimes you do). It would also fruitless to only have a butter knife. You need in-between in certain circumstances, and that is exactly what the Alpinestars SP-1 Gloves provide.

Alpinestars Durban: For Moto-Enthusiasts

Philip - Gear Geek

The new Alpinestars Durban has been designed for those moto enthusiasts out there who stick with two wheels year round. Incorporating Gore-Tex waterproofing and Outlast Thermal regulation you can be sure you will be warm and dry through the cold season, even when your poor two wheeled beast is wet and cold.
Alpinestars Durban Gore-Tex Motorcycle Jacket
The Alpinestars Durban Gore-Tex Jacket has a few tricks up its sleeves (which can be removed to reveal the gun show underneath!). With a detachable Gore-Tex liner, waterproof pockets, and large utility pocket for storage when you don’t need the liner, the Durban makes it easy to go out on your adventures prepared for any weather conditions. And when the going gets tough, the tough get thirsty. The Durban's got you covered there too with a 2 liter hydration pack storage pocket to keep the tough going. Finally, it has reflective detailing on the front and back, that way your friends can find you off that cliff you just drove over. Oh and so cars can see you, that would be good too.

Alpinestars Durban Gore-Tex Motorcycle PantsYou cannot forget the matching pants to compliment your new jacket though. The Alpinestars Durban Pants offer a Gore-Tex removable waterproof lining to keep you dry and removable CE knee armor for protection in case you meet the pavement. If the mud gets really deep you're covered, since the pants are bibs to keep you dry and clean underneath, no matter how dirty you are on the outside. The Durban pants have you covered on the pavement or in the dirt.

The Alpinestars Durban pants and jacket are excellent choices for your cooler weather riding where staying warm and dry are paramount. If you think the world is a playground, and those bumper stickers saying “you’re not lost if you don’t care where you are” appeal to you, then the Durban pants and jacket will certainly help you explore the world.
