REV'IT! Everest GTX Jacket & REV'IT! Everest GTX Pants Review

Consider this just something to whet the appetite. Due for tentative arrival in Spring 2011, the REV'IT! Everest GTX Jacket and REV'IT! Everest GTX Pants already have throngs of Adventure riders psyched for what's to come. Made in cooperation with Gore-Tex, the Everest outfit is the most technically advanced adventure touring product that REV'IT! has made to date, essentially indestructible and immune to the worst malice that Mother Nature can exact on a motorcyclist. We had the chance to get a super early sneak peek at this gear back in August but held off on a review, knowing that there'd be some changes before production. But we got our hands on the finalized product and gave it the RevZillaTV treatment. The REV'IT! Everest GTX outfit is everything it is touted to be.

Check out our REV'IT! Everest GTX Jacket and Pants Video Review:

The REV'IT! Everest GTX is arguably the most technically advanced jacket and pants they've ever released. The Everest uses GORE-TEX Pro Shell 3-Layer technology in its construction, which receives the highest waterproof breathable rating of any Gore engineering. The waterproofing is guaranteed for life and if any of this garment ever leaks, Gore-Tex will replace or repair it at no cost to you. The Pro Shell 3-Layer membrane utilizes heavy duty DuPont Cordura and Stretch Cordura in addition to Armacor which is a Cordura/Kevlar weave that is typically seen only in military application. Armacor is lightweight, soft to the touch, and incredibly abrasion resistant. It features a ripstop weave which prevents any puncture from tearing further and can be found in all impact areas of this garment.

So how do you keep a garment completely waterproof but also provide ventilation for hot weather riding? That's been a struggle with all-weather motorcycle gear for a long time. Until now. The Everest utilizes the brand new Gore-Tex LockOut zippers for intake ventilation at the chest and at the upper legs.  The LockOut zippers essentially work like the heaviest duty zip-lock bag you could imagine. Unlike traditional zippers with teeth, the LockOut zips are completely waterproof, utilizing a dual channel rubberized system to close. Easy open and easy close with 100% waterproofing in addition to being self-healing, which is to say that if they ever come apart, they will right themselves back on track. Waterproofing problem solved. Every other zipper on the garment is 100% YKK and all the snaps are spring-loaded.

The outer shell is treated with a TFL Cool treatment for heat reduction. TFL Cool essentially blocks the garment from heat absorption by 30% which could be up to 75ยบ F of heat reduction. Both the jacket and pants use the REV'IT! Exkin Air liner which is plush and comfortable, and provides 400% the insulation of DuPont Thermolite at 1/2 the weight and 1/2 the thickness. The Exkin is lined in high-sweat areas with moisture-wicking fleece to keep you dry and comfortable. When it's hot out, pull out the liners, open up the Lockout intake vents and the exhaust panels, and you'll be flowing plenty of air to keep you comfortable. There is also a CoolMax removable thermal collar that is antibacterial and moisture-wicking and can be taken off for added hot weather functionality.

Moving into the armor of the Everest. There is SaS-Tec molecular-level armor in the shoulders, elbows and knees with soft padding in the hips and back. Both the hips and back are shaped to house SaS-Tec protectors. If you don't know about SaS-Tec, it is extremely flexible and comfortable within the garment, molding to your body when body heat contacts it. However, upon impact, it becomes absolutely rigid and disperses the energy of impact across the surface area of the armor piece. Other companies are making molecular-level armor in this style, but we think SaS-Tec does it the best. The US Military seems to think the same thing, since it is this armor that is used in the soles of the soldiers who work on bomb diffusing teams in the Middle East. It's some serious armor.

The jacket and pants can be connected via the full length connection zipper for a complete suit. REV'IT! uses their GTX laminated reflection panels in this outfit, in all the important areas. There are multiple regions of adjustability, including the cuffs, waist, upper arms, under arms, hips, and ankles. The Everest has stretch material in the elbows, at the small of the back, and in the knees for an ergonomic and comfortable fit over long-distance touring rides. There are waterproof stash pockets to store important cargo, handwarmer pockets, and inner pockets. Finally, the collar is five-way adjustable and features a hook-and-loop lockdown system for when you want to ride with the collar open in warm weather.

There is much more to be said about this garment, but let me put it simply: this is arguably the most rugged and bombproof piece of gear we've ever seen at RevZilla. It will suit the seriously demanding Adventure Touring rider's needs and exceed expectations across the board. We are thrilled about its release this Spring and think it will be extremely popular in the most hardcore ADV touring crowd.

REV'IT! Orion GTX Gloves- GORE-TEX Touring/Commuting Glove

With the serious touring rider and long-time commuter in mind, REVIT! developed its newest winter motorcycle glove. The REV'IT! Orion GTX glove provides an excellent balance between rider comfort and protection, incorporating the GORE-TEX waterproof breathable membrane combined with REV'IT's constant attention to detail and commitment to the highest-quality materials.

Built on a chassis of 500D PWRShell with Teflon-coated 1000D ripstop Cordura reinforcements and water repellent goatskin & suede leather, the REVIT! Orion GTX ensures that your hand stays protected. The main knuckle protection is EVA foam, with PU injected reinforcements in the finger knuckles and foam injections at the palm and thumb. It is lightweight and extremely abrasion-resistant with excellent tear resistance provided by the ripstop fabric. There is also Schoeller Keptrotec built underneath the goatskin palm that provides stretch and comfort while the goatskin offers superior abrasion resistance and tactile feel.

For waterproofing and breathability, the integrated GORE-TEX membrane has you covered: your hands will be dry and comfortable no matter the weather as the membrane fends off incoming precipitation but allows perspiration from your hand to pass through. Couple that with the Thermolite push-pull tri-fleece liner and your riding not only protected but in a great deal of comfort as well.

As always, the creature comforts make their way into the REV'IT Orion GTX gloves; REVIT never leaves those out. You have 3M scotchlite reflective at the cuff and fingers for visibility; an adjustment strap at the wrist with an adjustment tab at the cuff; stretch paneling at the back of the hand to keep the glove in place and keep you comfortable when you're working the controls; digital grip patches on the index finger and the webbing of the hand for enhanced grip and control; and finally, our favorite, the visor wiper on the left index finger to easily clean your shield at any point in your ride.

The REVIT Orion GTX gloves are the ideal glove for the serious commuter or experienced touring rider. You may also be interested in checking out the more beefed-up REV'IT! Bastion GTX Gloves.

REV'IT! Defender GTX Gore-Tex Jacket & Pants

The godfather of the new REV'IT! and GORE-TEX collaboration is the REV'IT! Defender GTX Jacket & REV'IT! Defender GTX Pants. With its multiple liner system, SAS-TEC molecular-level armor, and next level technologies throughout the outfit, it really is a best-in-class all-weather all-season ADV Touring suit.

In Part 1, we detail the application, features, and fit of REV'IT Defender GTX Outfit.

Part 2 is the detailed breakdown of the armor and the liner system.

A logical progression from the REV'IT! Cayenne Pro Jacket & REV'IT Cayenne Pro Pants, the REVIT! Defender GTX Jacket & Pants has set a new standard for the serious ADV Touring rider. The Defender GTX outfit integrates a detachable GORE-TEX Performance Shell and keeps all the elements out but allows your body's perspiration to pass through. It also features the REVIT Exkin Air thermal liner: completely removable for the warm months, 1/2 the weight & 1/2 thickness of DuPont Thermolite but offering 4x more warmth and insulation. You're completely dry and warm for the cold and rainy times; pull out the liners in the jacket and pants, open the zippered ventilation panels, and you're flowing a ton of air and staying cool in the hot months.

Let's delve into the protective elements of this outfit. The outershell is constructed with Cordura 1000D ripstop & 500D PWRShell with 1000D & 1200D Cordura ripstop reinforcements. All of these materials are treated with a Teflon coating to give an added level of water repellency. With all of these beefy fabrics, one would think the Defender GTX would be bulky and crunchy, which couldn't be farther from the truth. REV'IT! managed to develop a nearly indestructible outfit that is still comfortable and soft to the touch. There are large SuperFabric panels on both the elbows and knees for great abrasion resistance. SuperFabric is 14x more abrasion-resistant than Kevlar; tiny welded ceramic plates that slide longer and do not conduct heat and therefore don't transfer heat to your body. Space age stuff no doubt. Protecting you in the event of a get-off is SAS-TEC molecular-level armor. SAS-TEC becomes soft and flexible with the heat given off by your body, but at the moment of impact rapidly turns rigid and disperses the energy across the surface area. SAS-TEC has the highest CE rating available. So that covers the safety and protective features.

For warm weather riding, once you've got the liners out, the large velcro-open and snap-down panels on the chest and legs flow a great deal of air. These panels are backed with 3D mesh, which is a thicker mesh construction that facilitates excellent circulation of air and essentially creates a microclimate that will keep your body very cool. There are two more ventilation zips on the chest and two-way ventilation zips on each arm. All of this airflow cools your body and flows out of two large exhaust vents on the back, creating that great venturi effect.

As with every garment in the REV'IT! lineup, the attention to detail in the REV'IT! Defender GTX Jacket & Pants is second to none. The creature comforts are absolutely off the charts: the 7-way adjustable collar with hook & loop lockdown system; adjustability at the cuffs, the lower and upper arms, waist cinching, hip drawcord, and adjustment tabs at the ankles; Karvin anti-heat and anti-wear cowhide at the inner leg to prevent wear and heat damage from pipes; stylish 3M reflective paneling; waterproof stash pockets; and the CoolMax antimicrobial moisture-wicking washable lining. The list goes on and on and on.

The REV'IT! Defender GTX Jacket & REV'IT Defender GTX Pants are really something to marvel at in the ADV Touring motorcycle industry. REVIT continues to innovate and integrate new technologies with great R&D to produce the finest adventure touring gear out there. We're impressed. And that's a massive understatement.

REV'IT! Legacy GTX GORE-TEX Jacket & Pants

Continuing their absolute domination of the ADV Touring motorcycle riding world, REV'IT! linked up with GORE-TEX to make products even more waterproof breathable and utterly bombproof. The REVIT Legacy GTX GORE-TEX Jacket & Legacy GTX Pants was built for serious ADV touring enthusiasts in areas where it is chilly most of the year; Northwesterners, Canadians, Northern Europeans, I'm looking at you.

Part 1 of our review of the REVIT! Legacy GTX GORE-TEX Outfit demonstrates the applications, features and fit of this brand new for Fall 2010 gear.

In Part 2, Anthony pulls out all the armor and walks through the liner system of the REV'IT! Legacy GTX Gore-Tex Jacket and Pants.

What makes this outfit very appropriate for slightly colder climates where there is frequent precipitation is the fact that the waterproof breathability is actually sandwiched into the outer shell. Unlike the REV'IT! Defender GTX Gore-Tex Jacket where the waterproof breathable liner is removable for those blazing hot days when you want all the liners out, the GORE-TEX Z-Liner is permanently attached to the outfit. If you live in an area of extreme heat and humidity, this suit will probably not be the best choice. You may want to take a look at the REVIT! Defender GTX Jacket & Pants. The REV'IT Legacy GTX does have some venting and will do a good job if the mercury is not soaring, but I'll reiterate: not ideal for Florida.

The REVIT! Legacy GTX has a great feature set that has become par-for-the-course from REV'IT. Pro-Life CE rated armor in the shoulders, elbows and knees; a detachable quilted liner featuring CoolMax antimicrobial moisture wicking fabric; shell construction from PWRShell 750 & 500 denier with 1000D ripstop Cordura reinforcements; large ventilation zips at chest, back, under the arms, and on the legs; a ton of adjustability via straps, tabs, drawcords and snaps; a 7-way adjustable collar with a hook & loop lockdown system; and of course, elasticated stretch paneling in all the critical flex areas.

We continue to be dazzled by every step forward that REVIT takes, probably because their strides are more like enormous leaps. This new teaming with GORE-TEX has got to scare the competition, because at this rate, REV'IT! will soon be saying ''what competition?'
