Dainese Scout Gore-Tex Gloves Review
I know it's July 12, and most everywhere is blazing hot right now, so most won't have a pressing need for the Dainese Scout Gore-Tex Gloves. However, these gloves need to be written about, if only as a vehicle to show off how slick they look and go into some detail about their cold weather performance. Brand new for 2011, the Scouts complement the Jerico gloves as the most high-end cold weather sport and ADV touring in the Dainese lineup. With protective elements that cover you in all impact areas and a Gore-Tex waterproof breathable membrane alongside a thermal liner, the Dainese Scout Gore-Tex Gloves will easily be your go-to winter glove choice.
Check out our Dainese Scout Gore-Tex Gloves Review:
Let's dive right into the materials that make up the Dainese Scout GTX Gloves. The backhand of the Scout is constructed of Stone PU, a highly abrasion-resistant proprietary textile that affords some stretch for mobility and comfort. The palm is a full goatskin construction, which is lighter and offers comparable abrasion resistance to cowhide, but affords a great deal more dexterity. There are double layers of goatskin in high-wear areas to preserve the longevity of this glove in addition to foam inserts at the heel of the hand that will dampen vibration and also provide some resistance to impact in a get-off-and-slide scenario. There are elasticated panels at the backhand and thumb for uninhibited mobility when working the controls.
At the backhand, you'll see white stitching across the main knuckles and at the fingers. This stitching surrounds the techno impact protectors. The techno armor technology is thermoformed hard plastic that heat-bonded to stainless steel net, eliminating any stitching that would create a weak point and a potential damage area. In short, this is streamlined and sleek protection that provides a high degree of impact resistance. At the pinky, you'll find the Dainese Distortion Control system, found on many of their race gloves. This hard PU insert acts as a slider in the event of a lowside crash, and prevents any twisting or torsion on the pinky which could cause serious damage.
If you don't know Gore-Tex, it is the most breathable of any waterproof membrane on the market (they pioneered the technology) and guaranteed for life. If this glove ever leaks, it will be replaced with no questions asked. There is a Primaloft thermal liner in the Scout gloves, which is an extremely insulating material that is used by the US military and can also be found in outdoor gear such as sleeping bags and hunting equipment. One of our favorite features of the Scout gloves is the cuff, which is a full gauntlet that features a stretch material and can be cinched down extremely snugly to streamline easily under your jacket. Staying true to Dainese, these gloves are sleek and provide a ton of style and performance.

Alpinestars Apex Drystar Gloves Review
Alpinestars knows how to make leather motorcycle gear. Everything from their race suits, jackets, gloves, and boots are always great products in terms of protection, comfort, and value. The Alpinestars Apex Drystar Gloves are no exception. The Apex is designed for the everyday rider, whether it be the commuter or the long distance tourer, and is a highly technical glove especially for being under the hundred dollar price point.
Check out our Alpinestars Apex Drystar Gloves Review:
The first thing you notice about this glove when you first put it on is the warm thermal Drystar liner. Drystar is a waterproof breathable material developed by Alpinestars that's designed to keep your hands dry and vented without letting outside water enter; think AStars' version of Gore-Tex. The goatskin leather also aids in the mobility and the lightweight feeling of the glove and gives the Apex a very short break in time to get comfortable. Waterproof textile is used in areas less prone to impacts and abrasion is used to help improve the comfort of the glove. The full gauntlet on the glove is very large and designed to fit over a motorcycle jacket cuff. This will help prevent wind, water and rain from entering the jacket through the sleeve. This glove is designed
for riding through rain, cold, and anything else Mother Nature
can throw at you.
The Apex glove is full of technical features that you just don't see on every touring glove. To start, there is a large hard PU molded knuckle protector sitting on the front of your hand. This gives your hand a ton of protection in the high impact area of the knuckle and gives a little bit of a race style. Behind the knuckle protector is an accordion stretch panel which makes moving your fingers easier when reaching for the controls and ensures the knuckle protector stays in place. Alpinestars also incorporated stretch panels on each one of the fingers to help aid motion. There's extra padding running down the outside of the palm and the hand, an area that is commonly ignored by glove makers but is vital in the event of a low side slide. On the underside of the
glove there is a pull flap to make getting this glove on and
off a little easier.
You're really going to have a hard time finding another waterproof motorcycle glove that offers this much at this price point. Sizes go from SM to 3XL and run snug like most Euro gloves. Colors are Black-Black, Black-Blue, and Black-Red.

Held Rainstar Gloves Review
Held, a name ubiquitous in the motorcycle industry, has come out with the warm weather complement to their extraordinarily popular Held Warm N Dry Gloves. The brand new for 2011 Held Rainstar Gloves are a Gore-Tex waterproof breathable option that feature a classic leather style. They will get you through the worst of the elements in Spring-Summer-Fall, but if you live in a milder climate or you use heated grips, the Rainstars could realistically be your go-to four-season glove.
Check out our Held Rainstar Gloves Review:
The Held Rainstar Gloves utilize cowhide leather at the backhand for abrasion resistance with an extremely responsive goatskin palm for tactile feel on the controls. The palm also features reinforcements across the grip area near the thumb with a texturized goatskin on the first two fingers for grip. Another big deal here is the stingray leather panel that protects the heel of the hand. This panel is backed by shock-absorbing gel for impact while the stingray itself is an extremely abrasion-resistant material along the lines of Superfabric. Rounding out the palm's features are a secondary micro-adjustment velcro panel for fit along with the single cuff velcro gauntlet main closure that can be worn over or under a jacket.
At the back hand, a leather coated hard plastic knuckle protector keeps the main knuckles safe while soft inserts in the fingers add another level of resilience. As with all Held gloves, the flat seam external stitching keeps the hand pressure-point free. The elasticated panels at the backhand, thumb and fingers allow for uninhibited mobility when working the controls. The visor wiper on the left index finger is a nice touch knowing that this glove will be used in not-so-savory wet conditions. Slight perforation in strategic areas will aid in airflow and keeping the hand cool in any and all active riding scenarios. Which brings us to the waterproof breathability and lining of this glove.
Waterproof breathability comes from the Gore-Tex membrane that is bonded to the shell. Gore-Tex is the most breathable of all waterproof membranes, keeping all precipitation out of the glove while allowing perspiration to escape through to the outside of the glove preventing the hand from becoming clammy and gross. A huge feature of this glove is the Outlast PCM (Phase Change Material) lining system. Outlast interacts with the temperature of the body to maintain optimal comfort. The materials absorb and store heat prior to perspiration taking place, thereby creating a microclimate within the glove. When the skin temperature drops, the heat from the PCM is released to warm the hand. Futuristic? Yeah, we'd say so.
Another standout product from Held, this glove should definitely be within the range of consideration for any long distance touring rider that tends to battle the elements on long rides. Check out our full range of similar gear by visiting our Waterproof Motorcycle Gloves section.

Alpinestars Messenger Drystar Gloves Review
Brand new for Spring 2011, the Alpinestars Messenger Drystar Gloves are designed to complement any of the AStars City Collection waterproof jackets for Fall-Winter-Spring riding. Continuing in the trend of this line from Alpinestars, the subtle design of this protective motorcycle gear gives it a casual appeal to many riders that don't want to brand themselves when they're off the bike and walking around town. Also available as the Alpinestars Stella Messenger Drystar Glove for women, this is a solid match for something along the lines of the Alpinestars Messenger WP Jacket for multi-season all-weather riding.
Check out our Alpinestars Messenger Drystar Gloves Review:
Lightweight, insulated, and completely waterproof breathable via the Drystar membrane, the Messenger is built with the city rider in mind with its understated design. The durable textile upper construction ensures extended life from this glove while the anti-slip material at the palm improves grip and helps to combat wear resulting from working the controls. There are shock-absorbing foam inserts at the palm which protect from impact and dampen vibrations from the bike. The elasticated wrist is complemented by the shock cord cuff closure that cinches down around the wrist, keeping heat within the glove and adding another block against precipitation.
A solid choice for the light motorcyclist or city rider in all-weather conditions, the Alpinestars Messenger Drystar Gloves offer a great deal of bang for the buck. To see our entire collections, visit the Alpinestars Gloves and Waterproof Motorcycle Gloves sections at RevZilla.

REV'IT! Phantom GTX Gloves Review
Designed to provide the highest level of protection from the worst of the elements, the brand new REV'IT! Phantom GTX Gloves will perform extraordinarily in Spring-Summer-Fall sport and adventure riding. REV'IT!'s teaming with Gore-Tex for their Fall 2010 line of gear was immensely popular across the board, and we think that this brand new glove will have the same impact in the riding community. Any time you can add the highest degree of waterproofing and breathability to the level of quality and engineering of a brand like REV'IT!, only good things come out of it.
Check out our REV'IT! Phantom GTX Gloves Review:
The REV'IT! Phantom GTX Gloves are a full goatskin outer shell for superb abrasion resistance, tactility, and lightweight construction. The entirety of the glove gets a WR finish, which gives the exterior water resistant properties that work in conjunction with the Gore-Tex membrane to keep the hand dry and comfortable at all times. The Gore-Tex X-trafit membrane is bonded to the outershell of the glove, which keeps the liner in place, ensuring the your hand will never pull out the liner with it when you take off the glove and that there is no chance of your hand getting wet even when it's downpouring outside. The palm of the Phantoms has multiple zones of goatskin reinforcemen, a Sure Grip panel across the upper palm and
inner thumb for resistance to wear in high-use areas, and EVA foam at the heel of the hand for vibration dampening. On the outside of the palm there is a dual comp palm slider, derived from REV'IT! race gloves, that will keep the side of the hand protected from impact but also allow the glove to slide in the event of a get-off. This works in conjunction with the goatskin reinforcements that wrap around the side of the hand and little finger for superior abrasion resistance. A TPU hard shell little finger protector acts in the same manner, allowing the hand to slide in the event of a crash. The PU injected finger knuckles and hard part main knuckle armor are all leather coated to maintain the sleek design of these gloves.
The Phantom GTX Gloves have elasticated panels at the backhand and mid-digitally to allow for proper movement and let the armor move with the hand when you're working the controls. There is laminated reflective paneling at the tips of the first two fingers, at the backhand, and at the outside of each wrist for maximum visibility. Rounding out, you've got elastication at the wrist alongside a velcro adjuster for a snug fit, and a single velcro cuff closure that is large enough to be worn outside the jacket but can be tightened and worn inside of the jacket if desired. Overall, REV'IT! has produced yet another winner for the sport and adventure riding community.

REV'IT! Summit & REV'IT! Summit H2O Gloves Review
The new do-it-all three-season glove has arrived from REV'IT! in the form of the REV'IT! Summit Glove and REV'IT! Summit H2O Glove. Available in mens and womens specific sizings, the Summit has its sights set squarely on the sport touring rider. Stylish, protective, and extremely comfortable, the Summit is a high performance Spring-Summer-Fall glove. For added functionality, look to the Summit H2O for full waterproof breathability; it will make an excellent choice as a Spring-Summer-Fall wet weather riding glove.
Check out our REV'IT! Summit and REV'IT! Summit H2O Gloves Review:
Starting off with the regular Summit, which is also available as the REV'IT! Women's Summit Glove, this glove is a full goatskin outer construction for superior abrasion resistance. The palm features goatskin leather reinforcements in addition to a Schoeller-Keprotec panel both for grip and resistance to wear in high-use areas. Also featured on the palm is an EVA foam injected panel for vibration dampening. Along the outer side of the palm is a dual comp slider, a feature borrowed from REV'IT! race gloves, that operates both as abrasion resistant (it will slide on the ground in a get-off) and impact resistant (the honeycomb structure will crush and absorb and energy caused from impact). Moving along the side of the hand, there is full
leather reinforcement that wraps up the side of the hand and pinky, providing added protection from torsion. The pinky also has a TPU hard shell protector that will protect in a crash scenario, working with the dual comp slider to allow the glove to slide. On the back of the hand, leather coated PU injected finger knuckles and a TPR (thermoplastic rubber) main knuckle provide the armor. There is elasticated stretch paneling across the fingers and the backhand which allows the armor to move ergonomically when working the controls. Finally, there is elastication at the wrist with a velcro adjuster in addition to a large single velcro cuff closure. The cuff is medium sized and long enough to go either over or under a jacket.
The Summit H2O, which again is also available as the REV'IT! Women's Summit H2O Glove, features the exact same protective elements as the Summit as far as hard part armor is concerned. The difference between the two is that the Summit H2O is entirely waterproof breathable thanks to REV'IT!'s Hydratex Pro Touch membrane. This membrane is bonded to the inside of the goatskin outer shell, ensuring that no matter the conditions your hands will stay dry. The other key difference is that the backhand in the Summit H2O features PWRShell 500D Kevlar Stretch fabric rather than being completely goatskin. Finally, knowing that you'll oftentimes be riding in wet conditions while wearing the Summit H2O Gloves, there is a visor wiper on the left index finger for quick shield cleans and a suede patch on the inner thumb and index finger to wipe your face.
No matter which of these gloves better suits your application, either one is going to perform extremely well in the conditions it was designed to excel in. REV'IT! continues to take designs of the past, figure out their shortcomings, and make dramatic improvements in the next version. The Summit and Summit H2O are another representation of REV'IT's progress.

AGV Sport Telluride Gloves Review
Designed to combat all weather elements in Spring-Summer-Fall, the AGV Sport Telluride Gloves will perform extremely well in sport touring riding under those conditions. Like all AGV Sport products, these gloves offer great bang for the buck, with excellent design and engineering elements. These gloves pair up well with the AGV Sport Telluride Jacket and the AGV Sport Telluride Pants to form a multi-season all weather outfit.
Check out our AGV Sport Telluride Gloves Review:
A hybrid construction of premium cowhide leather with Schoeller Keprotec textile fabric, the Telluride Gloves offer excellent resistance to tears and abrasion. Bonded to the shell is a Hipora waterproof breathable element designed as your weapon against precipitation. The plush interior of these gloves is highly insulated and will provide solid levels of warmth on cold days. The palm of the Tellurides is reinforced with Clarino synthetic leather, as are the index finger and thumb, for resistance to abrasion and wear in high use and impact zones. At the backhand, hard metal armor backed by shock absorbing foam protects the main knuckles and the finger knuckles, while leather reinforcement panels provide added protection to the fingers.
As with all AGV Sport gear, high tensile strength nylon thread is used with double stitching in high impact areas for excellent tear resistance. The pre-curved fingers prevent any fatigue in the hand while the dual panel backhand allows the armor to move freely to also combat discomfort. There is a large reflective panel on the backhand for safety and visibility. The long cuff has an elastic band at the wrist for snugness, a single velcro closure, and the wrist area has shock absorbing foam padding for added safety.
Another great product from AGV Sport at an extraordinarily reasonable price. To check out similar options, visit our Waterproof Motorcycle Gloves section.

With the serious touring rider and long-time commuter in mind, REVIT! developed its newest winter motorcycle glove. The REV'IT! Orion GTX glove provides an excellent balance between rider comfort and protection, incorporating the GORE-TEX waterproof breathable membrane combined with REV'IT's constant attention to detail and commitment to the highest-quality materials.
Built on a chassis of 500D PWRShell with Teflon-coated 1000D ripstop Cordura reinforcements and water repellent goatskin & suede leather, the REVIT! Orion GTX ensures that your hand stays protected. The main knuckle protection is EVA foam, with PU injected reinforcements in the finger knuckles and foam injections at the palm and thumb. It is lightweight and extremely abrasion-resistant with excellent tear resistance provided by the ripstop fabric. There is also Schoeller Keptrotec built underneath the goatskin palm that provides stretch and comfort while the goatskin offers superior abrasion resistance and tactile feel.

For waterproofing and breathability, the integrated GORE-TEX membrane has you covered: your hands will be dry and comfortable no matter the weather as the membrane fends off incoming precipitation but allows perspiration from your hand to pass through. Couple that with the Thermolite push-pull tri-fleece liner and your riding not only protected but in a great deal of comfort as well.

As always, the creature comforts make their way into the REV'IT Orion GTX gloves; REVIT never leaves those out. You have 3M scotchlite reflective at the cuff and fingers for visibility; an adjustment strap at the wrist with an adjustment tab at the cuff; stretch paneling at the back of the hand to keep the glove in place and keep you comfortable when you're working the controls; digital grip patches on the index finger and the webbing of the hand for enhanced grip and control; and finally, our favorite, the visor wiper on the left index finger to easily clean your shield at any point in your ride.
The REVIT Orion GTX gloves are the ideal glove for the serious commuter or experienced touring rider. You may also be interested in checking out the more beefed-up REV'IT! Bastion GTX Gloves.
