Teknic Chicane Street Glove Review

The Teknic Chicane Street Gloves has to be one of our best street and sport riding gloves for the guy looking for a short cuff motorcycle glove below the 50 dollar price point. The lineup of Teknic gear has some excellent motorcycle gloves to go along with their jackets and race suits and the Chicane glove is no exception. The Chicane was built for the sport and street riding crowd looking for a glove that offers a lot more technical features found on a full gauntlet glove but with a shorty style. There's a ton of stuff that we like about this glove, especially the amount of protection and the build quality that you get at an entry model price.

Check out our Teknic Chicane Street Glove Review

The Chicane has a full premium goatskin leather construction. Goatskin is one of the most supple, comfortable, and durable materials to make a glove out of; it is a great sign of quality when shopping for a leather glove. The stitching and details on the glove are very well done especially around some of the more technical parts such as the armor and the elasticated stretch panels. The protection of the Chicane consists of a thermoplastic, dual compound knuckle protector and thermoplastic rubber inserts going down the fingers, including the pinky which is normally neglected. My favorite part of this glove is that Teknic actually put a good amount of effort in protecting the outside of the palm and pinky. In the event of a low side crash and slide the outside of the hand is most likely to take damage. Teknic put an extra piece of Kevlar with padding on the outside of the hand. Few gloves in this price range have this side protection and it's an area that many manufacturers ignore.

The amount of detail in the styling of the glove is also great to see in the Chicane. The glove has stretch panels in all four fingers and the thumb, this is one more thing that few manufacturers put on their entry model gloves. The silicone Teknic logo on the palm adds grip and "Teknic Racing" written across the index finger and just adds to the style and the appeal of the Chicane. Both the black and the white versions are very well styled.

The Chicane is definitely one of my favorite gloves under 50 dollars. This glove comes in a white and black version and an all black version. Sizes go from a small to a 3xl and the fit is definitely a bit more casual and relaxed than some of the tighter, more aggressive fitting Teknic race gloves.  For 45 bucks the Teknic Chicane is definitely one of the best values you can get in the shorty glove market.

Icon Pursuit Gloves Review

Icon gloves are some of the most popular items we sell at RevZilla. Everyday we're shipping tons of these gloves to our customers and it's for a good reason. Icon Motorcycle Gear has always been popular with our aggressive street based riding crowd looking for good protection and reasonable prices. The Icon Pursuit Glove follows right in these footsteps and is built for the serious street rider. There's an Icon Pursuit Perforated Glove, a non-perf version, and an Icon Women's Pursuit Glove. The Pursuit has a ton of protection for a short cuff motorcycle glove and it's the most affordable full grain leather glove Icon offers; the Pursuit has a MSRP set at 55 bucks.

Check out our Icon Pursuit Glove review:

What makes the Pursuit stand out is the amount of protection you're going to get out of this glove versus other gloves in the 50 dollar price point. The main construction of the glove's exterior is premium goatskin leather. Goatskin is some of the best leather for glove manufacturers to use because of how light, supple, and durable it is. This glove is also very light and as soon as you slide your hand into it you're going to feel a huge hard knuckle protector sitting right on the front portion of your hand. This is a hard plastic piece that feels strong enough to protect your knuckles in the event of a moderate impact or slide. This is hidden underneath the gloves leather construction giving the glove a much more stealthy style than a glove with an exposed knuckle protector. The palms of the glove are reinforced with an extra piece of goatskin leather for more protection against abrasion and for extra grip on the controls of your machine. Each finger also gets its own hard protector in the mid-digit for added protection. The only let down with this glove is the lack of any kind of protection on the outside of the pinky to the outside of the wrist as well as the thumb area. These tend to be places of vulnerability in the event of a low side crash and slide but you would have to look at gloves in the 90 dollar price point before you start to get that kind of protection.

There are three different versions of this glove available: perforated, non-perforated, and a women's version. The perforated version feels like it'll be a great summer weight glove for when the temperature climbs above the 75 degree mark but you'd have to be one tough rider to be able to wear these when temperatures are in the 40's. The non-perforated version feels like the exact opposite and would stretch from about the 40's-60's temperature range. The women's version is also available in perforated and non-perforated and is design specifically for a woman's hand.

The Icon Pursuit is definitely going to be a popular glove of kit at RevZilla this season. They're available in 6 different perf colors, 4 different womens' colors, and a stealth non-perf. Sizes go from a mens S to XXXL and womens sizes go from S to XL.

Sport Short Cuff Motorcycle Glove Guide

Our next round of 2011 Warm Weather Motorcycle Gear Guides brings us to our top picks in motorcycle gloves. We have three total videos, including our top Adventure Glove and Motorcycle Race Gauntlet picks so be sure not to miss those, but in this guide we're focusing on our top picks for aggressive warm weather sport and short cuff motorcycle gloves. The first criterion for this category was airflow and comfort; you can rest assured that all of these gloves will keep you cool and comfortable on all active warm weather rides. Beyond that, these gloves vary in price point, protection, style and overall levels of technicality with the highest-end glove mimicking the safety levels of pro-level racing gloves.

Check out our Sport & Short Cuff Motorcycle Glove Guide:

First up in our mix is the value-priced and high-performance Shift Fury Glove. A fresh design for 2011, the Shift Fury provides significant airflow via the lightweight textile and leather backhand and the vented rubberized finger protectors. A hard part piece of armor protects the knuckles while sitting on its own panel to allow the armor to stay in place while working the controls. The premium leather palm has Clarino reinforcements in all high-wear areas in addition to slight perforation on the inside of the fingers. The Airprene wrist closure provides a snug, comfortable seal against the wrist and, as always with Shift Racing, you see plenty of slick branding native to all their gear.

Our next pick in this mix is the all-time bestselling glove from Alpinestars. The recipient of a redesign for 2011, the Alpinestars SMX-2 Air Carbon Glove retains the same protective elements as its predecessor but has become more streamlined and stylish for this year. This glove is defined by its lightweight leather and mesh construction which flows a ton of air but is also abrasion resistant and durable. The carbon fiber knuckle plate offers significant impact protection while the Clarino reinforced synthetic leather palm gives solid resistance to abrasion. Foam padding and TPR reinforcements bulk up the safety elements of the what is sure to be AStars bestseller for 2011.

The true crossover pick within this mix is the REV'IT! Sand Glove, which is absolutely designed for warm weather dualsport and enduro riding. Adventure riders will be excited to know that this glove can perform in both on and off-road scenarios, with an exceptional degree of ventilation and protection. The backhand is constructed of mesh and PWRShell Stretch fabrics with PU injections providing protection across the main and finger knuckles. The goatskin palm features a second level of reinforcement with additional premium cowhide patches and anti-wear fortification. REV'IT! ADV loyalists will appreciate the attention to detail and enduro performance of the Sand.

One of RevZilla's all-time bestselling gloves, the REV'IT! Monster Gloves offer performance that spans across all realms of warm weather on-road riding. The entirety of the glove is a premium goatskin construction, and it truly is an effortless marriage of good looks and functionality. The Monster has a leather coated carbon fiber hard shell knuckle with PU injections on the fingers for added protection. The goatskin is significantly perforated to help keep the air flowing in hot weather riding conditions. At the palm, Clarino reinforcements complement the abrasion resistance and tactility of the goatskin while Temperfoam padding adds vibration dampening functionality. This is one of our favorites in the mix.

The Alpinestars SP-X Gloves offer a big step forward in protection and performance over the previously mentioned SMX-2 Air Carbons. Lightweight and protective, the SP-X combines full-grain leather with air mesh at the backhand for abrasion-resistance and ventilation. Protection is bulked up with carbon fiber main knuckle and finger knuckle protection, in addition to a carbon fiber slider at the sidehand. The palm is a synthetic suede construction with leather reinforcements that aid in safety and grip. TPR injections and logos can be found in various places around the glove which add style and another level of protection. This is also the first glove we see in the mix with wrist protection via the EVA foam padding.

The top short and sport glove for warm weather riding for 2011 is the Dainese 4 Stroke Glove. Armed with a stainless steel main knuckle and backhand protector and TPU knuckle protectors, the 4 Strokes have a crazy amount of protection for a short cuff glove, including Distortion Control on the outside of the pinky that protects against torsion in a get-off scenario. The 4 Stroke has a cowhide backhand that is perf'd for airflow with a tactile goatskin palm that is reinforced in wear and impact areas. There is also TPU protection on the palm and at the cuff. Elasticated inserts throughout allow uninhibited range of motion for active riding. And of course, this features classic Dainese style that separates it from the pack.

Alpinestars S-MX 2 Air Carbon Glove Review

Sometimes a bestselling product only needs slight modifications to become even more of a powerhouse than it was before. Such is the case with the brand new Alpinestars S-MX 2 Air Carbon Gloves, a staple in the Alpinestars lineup. With slight improvements in comfort, performance and protection, Alpinestars has elevated this short cuff summer sport riding glove to the next level.

Check out our Alpinestars SMX-2 Air Carbon Gloves Review:

Available in six color options to match the style of your ride, the SMX-2 Air Carbons are a leather and mesh design for safety and airflow on hot summer days. The leather keeps you protected while the ample mesh paneling will rush air through the gloves to keep you cool. At the backhand, carbon fiber knuckle armor protects from impact while TPR inserts in the fingers and back provide additional reinforcement. At the inside, a synthetic leather palm is reinforced by Clarino panels for protection and durability in high-use and high-wear areas. There are also foam padded inserts at the heel of the hand for vibration dampening and added protection from impact.

Rubberized panels at the inside of the fingertips provide a high degree of grip while the neoprene-style cuff and TPR velcro flap offer a comfortable and custom-fitting closure. What really sets this glove apart is Alpinestars ability to pack style, protection, airflow and overall performance into a glove at this price point. The fact that so many color options are available to suit your personal style is just bonus points. Dainese 4 Stroke Gloves Review

A brand new street and sport riding glove, the Dainese 4 Stroke Gloves are an extremely stylish and protective short cuff summertime option. A big step up in features and functionality from the Dainese Ricochet Gloves, the 4 Strokes are sure to be a big hit for sport tourers and aggressive street riders within the Dainese lineup.

Check out our Dainese 4 Stroke Gloves Review:

Let's take a look at how these gloves are constructed. The backhand chassis is an extremely abrasion-resistant cowhide leather while the palm is a strong, lightweight, and very tactile goatskin leather. There is perforation all over the back of the hand, at the palms, and in between the fingers to suck air into the gloves. Protection is loaded up in the 4 Strokes: the main knuckle is a composite insert- TPU hard parts on the knuckle and back hand that are thermowelded to a stainless steel plate. The finger knuckles all feature TPU hard part armor while the pinky uses TPU sliders and Dainese's Distortion Control System to prevent serious injury to the little finger, which is an extremely common racing injury. There is addition TPU slider at the heel of the
hand and at the cuff. This is a ton of armor for a short cuff glove.

For comfort and ergonomics, the 4 Strokes have microelastic inserts across the fingers, and at the thumb and cuff, so there is no discomfort when actively working the controls. The palm features leather reinforcements in high-use and high-wear areas to extend the longevity. Foam inserts at the thumb and palm provide additional safety. The glove has an ergonomic pre-curving to reduce fatigue while a single velcro cuff closure provides a snug fit. The fingers also all feature double layer leather reinforcements for added safety. Across the board, the Dainese 4 Stroke Gloves will excel in summertime street and sport riding and they are a welcome addition to the Dainese lineup, brand new for Spring 2011.

REV'IT! Fly Gloves & REV'IT! Curb Gloves Review

Two new sport riding focused summertime gloves are going to be released from REV'IT! in Spring 2011 to complement the immensely popular REV'IT! Monster Gloves. The REV'IT! Fly Gloves provide excellent ventilation and safety features, while the REV'IT! Curb Gloves add upgraded protective elements for summertime rides. Of course, each of these gloves features slick design elements, as REV'IT! never sacrifices on style for the sport rider.

First up is our REV'IT! Fly Gloves Review:

The REV'IT! Fly Gloves feature a full goatskin and PU-coated cowhide exterior construction for the highest levels of abrasion resistance, but it is also fully perforated to flow the maximum amount of air on hot weather rides. The sleek design sets the REV'IT! Fly apart as the PU injected finger knuckle and main knuckle armor are completely leather wrapped to maintain the slick look of the glove. Elasticated stretch panels at the backhand and fingers allow for movement and let the armor move with the hand as you work the controls. The palm features a Schoeller-Keprotec panel that assists in preventing wearing down of the glove and also provides grip. For the price, you won't find many other gloves that feature the REV'IT! Fly Gloves in terms of
features, functionality and style for summertime sport riding.

Next is our REV'IT! Curb Gloves Review:

If you're looking to upgrade the protective elements of the REV'IT! Fly and REV'IT! Monster, the REV'IT! Curb Gloves will be your go-to summertime sport glove. Similar to the Fly, the Curb is a full goatskin and PU-coated cowhide construction. The perforation scheme is significantly scaled back to go along with the beefed-up protection. Both the main knuckle and finger knuckles are carbon fiber for exceptional impact protection, while the outside of the little finger is reinforced with leather and has a TPU hard shell protector. The palm features a dual comp slider, a protective element borrowed from REV'IT! race gloves. The rest of the palm is goatskin with Schoeller-Keprotec
paneling for wear resistance, EVA foam for vibration dampening, and cowhide reinforcements for abrasion resistance. The fingers are externally stitched, race-style, and pre-curved for comfort. There are multiple zones of double stitching throughout the glove for tear resistance and PWR|yarn is used throughout, an extremely high tensile strength thread. These gloves are simply the next level of functionality when it comes to hot weather sport and street riding. We think they're going to be an absolute home run in the sport riding and touring community for their go-to summer glove.

Dainese Ricochet Gloves Review

A brand new street option from Dainese for Spring 2011, the Dainese Ricochet Gloves are a motard-inspired glove that will perform extremely well in hot weather spirited street and sport riding. With everything that goes into a pair of Dainese Gloves, from style to protection to overall performance, the Ricochets will shine in warm to hot weather riding on the road.

Check out our full Dainese Ricochet Gloves Review here:

The Dainese Ricochet Gloves feature a full premium cowhide leather construction with textile stretch fabric in strategic areas. Protection comes in multiple forms: carbon fiber main knuckle backed by temperfoam reinforcements, foam padding across the knuckles, and a TPU slider along the side of the pinky to assist in a get-off-and-slide scenario. Double leather reinforcement is found along the side of the hand that wraps all the way up to the pinky and there is also double leather at the heel of the hand with foam padding for vibration dampening. A large Stone PU patch on the palm that wraps up the inside of the palm is for durability and grip; this helps to prevent the palm from wearing out prematurely. There is foam padding on the back of the thumb in addition to stretch textile for flex.

Let's get into the creature comforts on this glove. You've got elasticated stretch paneling across the backhand and across the fingers to allow the armor to move with your hand while you're working the controls and stay where it needs to be to remain protective. There is perforation in between each of the fingers and at the top of the hand to help the air circulate through the glove. These are built for summertime- it's going to be hot and this ventilation will help cool the hands in a major way. This glove has a single velcro cuff closure and of course it has all the Dainese style elements, with strategic logos in all the right places and just an overall great line to it.

Icon Overlord Long & Short Gloves Review

Brand new for Fall 2010, the Icon Overlord Gloves tout being the most technically advanced gloves that Icon has produced to date. Available as the Icon Overlord Short Gloves, which are a short cuff street glove, and the Icon Overlord Long Gloves, a full gauntlet for street riding, Icon spared no expense in design and development of the Overlords. The entire Icon Fall 2010 Gear lineup has us extremely impressed and these gloves are no digression from their attention to quality, detailing and sick styling.

First is our Icon Overlord Long Gloves Review:

Since the Overlord Long and Overlord Short Gloves share mostly the same features, I'll discuss the commonalities of the gloves first and then explain the differences. Both gloves utilize race-level features and integrate them into street gloves. The backhand construction is full Battlehide Goatskin, Icon's proprietary premium abrasion resistant goatskin. It is light and supple, with more strength than traditional leather cowhide. This combines with injected thermoplastic split knuckle protection that is vented and sits upon its own separate panel to maintain proper placement of the armor when working the controls. The back of the hand also has an additional battlehide goatskin reinforcement panel that sits atop punctuated ventilating goatskin. The fingers feature hard part protection with ventilation,
elasticated stretch for ease of movement, and mesh paneling
between the fingers.

The palm of the gloves is complete Kangaroo leather, which has been the biggest phenomenon in the motorcycle glove industry of late. Kangaroo, like goatskin, is lighter, more flexible, and offers greater abrasion resistance than cowhide. The palm is reinforced with Pittards Keratan Goatskin in all impact and high-wear areas. Keratan is Pittards Goatskin with a hard coating applied in the form of an etched diamond pattern that significantly improves the abrasion resistance and durability of the goatskin. This reinforcement also wraps around and up the side of the pinky since that area is extremely vulnerable in the event of a low-side. In the bottom of the hand, the Keratan is backed by temperfoam injections for vibration-dampening. Finally, everyone who has ever been in a crash scenario knows that the weakest point of any garment is the seams. To that end, Icon has utilized high-tenacity external Aramid stitching throughout. Stitching on the outside provides greater comfort while the aramid itself is very abrasion resistant and also has high heat resistance, so there is no concern that the stitching will burn through and come apart.

Here is our Icon Overlord Short Glove Review:

The main difference between the long and short versions is the full gauntlet that appears on the Icon Overlord Long Glove. This full gauntlet features perforated goatskin and injected thermoplastic wrist protection at the side. This will assist greatly in the event of a low-side and slide situation. There is also an adjustment velcro strap at the inner wrist protected by a Pittards Keratan panel. Both the long and short gloves feature a single velcro closure system and a neoprene-style cuff for comfort. You'll find precurving in the fingers for a more comfortable fit and, of course, Icon logos throughout thanks to their great attention to stylish detail.

The first look at these gloves has us believing that they're going to be a homerun for the sportbike and street riding community. We can only imagine that Icon's next logical step will be a full-on racesuit. Check out comparable gear by visiting our Motorcycle Race Gloves section and our Men's Short Cuff Motorcycle Gloves sections.
