Brand new for spring 2012, the Dainese R-Twin Leather Jacket is a vintage-inspired option designed for the city rider, naked bike or café racer enthusiast. At first glance, the Dainese R-Twin flaunts a style popularized decades ago that we've recently seen make its way back in the motorcycle world. What you won't see at first glance is all of the motorcycle functionality we've come to expect from Dainese. It's certainly there, but it's done in a subtle manner that doesn't take anything away from the R-Twin's aesthetic appeal. Beyond the premium vintage cowhide leather used in the construction, you'll see S1 stretch panels along the inner arm for flexibility and airflow, in addition to microelastic inserts at the shoulder blades. Dainese's new Microelastic technology is elasticity that is woven into the leather, enabling you to maintain the strength and abrasion resistance of leather while providing flexibility and range of motion.

For protection, there is Dainese's proprietary CE rated armor at the shoulders and elbows, and there are pockets in the back for both the Dainese Air Shield and Wave CE rated back protectors. Inside, there is a removable thermal liner for the colder months which can be removed, and two open/close chest intake vents to flow some air in warmer times of the year. Adjustments are found at the neck and waist, and there is a full 360º zip to connect this jacket to pair a Dainese leather pants. There are two standard handwarmer pockets on the outside, a pocket on the thermal liner, and an inner liner pocket. The inner liner features Dainese's sanitized treatment to keep the funk out of this jacket in the long term.

REV'IT! Hawk Leather Jacket Review

There are a ton of leather motorcycle jackets at RevZilla that are absolutely gorgeous. Bright race replica styling, huge shoulder and elbow protectors, and graphics really do look awesome when blasting down your favorite canyon road or when you pull up next to a mini van at a stop light. The only problem is that when you step off the bike and start walking around town, you're going to look like you're wearing a Power Ranger Halloween costume. REV'IT! hopes to cure complication with their retro styled REV'IT! Hawk Leather Jacket. This jacket is really designed to look great on anything from the cafe racer and rat bike to the Ducati and Harley. This is simply a jacket built to look great on and off the bike and still offer a ton of protection.

The REV'IT Hawk's design focuses around its throw back 1960s styling. The elk leather on the Hawk feels much lighter and is not nearly as stiff as something like the REV'IT! Tarmac Leather Jacket. The elk-hide just feels looser and has a more casual feel and look to it. The metal zippers give the jacket that real old school 60s leather jacket vibe. The snaps on the waist and collar of the jacket also have that unique look and feel. The stitching looks really cool and continues the overall vintage vibe.  On the lower back of the jacket is a really cool quilted pattern that keeps your skin covered all the way to your pants belt when on the bike. If Johnny Ramone were still alive, this jacket would have his name written all over it.

This jacket has a ton of safety and protection features built into it with ProLife CE protection in the shoulders and elbows and a foam insert in the back that can be replaced with a CE back protector. The seams on the jacket are double safety stitched to help prevent any bursting in a wreck. All in all, you're getting a lot of protection from a jacket that's this well styled. The Hawk leather jacket includes a removable thermal liner to help extend the use of this jacket further into the Fall and earlier in the Spring. Unfortunately there is very little venting on this jacket so when the temperatures climb closer and closer to the triple digits this won't be the jacket you want to be wearing, but that's true for a lot leather jackets. Outer pockets are easy

to access and give you a little bit of room to put your wallet or cell phone. The inner pocket is also very nice for putting an MP3 player in so you can listen to the Clash or the Rolling Stones while cruising around town.

Black on black on black is the only color scheme available on this jacket, but honestly would you really want any other color? I don't think so. Sizes go from 48-60 in Euro sizing. The fit on this jacket is a more casual and loose fit so you don't have to go to the gym for 6 months before you can fit this jacket. This really is one of the nicest retro styled motorcycle jackets you can get.

Joe Rocket Radar Dark Leather Jacket Review

There's nothing like the style and protection that a good leather jacket offers. There's also nothing like the airflow and lightweight nature of a mesh jacket. Can you imagine having both a leather and mesh jacket in one? It's called the Joe Rocket Radar Dark Leather Jacket. This is a street based three-season hybrid jacket with stealthy black styling. This is a very versatile Joe Rocket jacket and definitely will rank high in the bang for the buck category.

The Joe Rocket Radar is constructed of a combination of 1.2mm leather and Free Air™ mesh in the shell. The leather is strategically placed in areas prone to impacts and sliding; these vulnerable areas are the shoulders, elbows, back and chest. The areas of the jacket that are less vital get the breathable mesh material. These consist of the stomach, the inside of the arms, and the area around the collar. Joe Rocket incorporated CE rated armor in the shoulders and elbows of the jacket. There is a non CE rated spine pad but this can be removed and replaced with a CE rated back protector. The Radar also has a race styled GP-hump that will provide some extra back protection but in the event of a wreck it will help elevate your head some you helmet wont skip and drag on the road. The hump will also provide some additional aerodynamics.

Joe Rocket did a great job packing this jacket full of features you don't see on every jacket. The liner of the jacket is a removable windproof liner. The liner isn't thermal or waterproof so on colder mornings you will need some kind of mid layer and on damp days you will get wet. When you take out the liner the jacket will loosen up a bit thus Joe Rocket put snaps on the arms and waist to help tighten it back up. A snap close collar gives an extra styling touch and aids in comfort. Finally there's a set of jeans loop connectors
to keep this jacket from riding up when getting in the race position.

Sizes go from 38 to 56 and this jacket fits on the larger side. For the Radar Dark, your only color scheme option is the stealthy black on black.

This is essentially what Speed and Strength has done with their new Speed & Strength Twist of Fate 2.0 Leather Jacket. The Leather Twist of Fate 2.0 is a jacket made for the aggressive street riding and sport crowd. It can also be attached to the Speed and Strength Twist Of Fate Leather Pants to make a good race suit for the casual track day rider and knee dragger.

This jacket is great for the sport rider who wants one jacket that can hit the commute Monday through Friday, do some back-road twisties on Saturday, and hit the track on Sunday. The leather on the Twist of Fate 2.0 is 1.2-1.4mm cowhide which is perfect to keep you comfortable and protected in case of a high side wreck. The stitching holding the leather together is Kevlar safety stitching with double stitching at the main seams. Knox CE approved armor in the shoulders and elbows as well as external sliders help separate your body from the high impact areas and asphalt. The back has a Knox TP2 CE Back Protector which is normally a 30 dollar upgrade. This means the entire jacket is CE approved. The armor is also sewn right into the jacket

meaning it's not removable but also means it won't move out of place in the event of an accident. The mini GP hump provides an extra aggressive touch to the jacket's styling and will also aid in preventing the top of the spine and back of the helmet from having a direct impact with the asphalt. This is everything you would expect from the top half of a race suit.

This jacket also showed some courtesies to the street rider. The Twist of Fate isn't cut as tight or as aggressive as some of the Italian race jackets. There's a little more room around the stomach and sleeves and it has a more casual fit overall.  There's a ton of perforation down the front of the
jacket to help keep you vented when the temperatures rise and the tarmac begins to melt. The sleeves also have perforation on the leather and stretch panels running down the inside of the arms that will also flow some air. Speed & Strength also put a few perf holes on the back of the jacket to help vent air out of the back. This jacket is collarless so there's nothing to interfere with head movement and the sleeves and waist have adjustment straps to help tailor the fit to your liking.

All in all, the Speed and Strength Twist of Fate 2.0 leather jacket will play right into the street and the casual track riding crowd. If you're a little more hardcore of a track rider then the full Speed & Strength Twist of Fate 2.0 Race Suit might be more up your alley. The sizes go from 38-54US and color schemes are a dark black color, a very clean white, and a dark grey.

One of the premier leather jacket options in the Dainese sport lineup is the Dainese Newsan New Leather Jacket. Previously simply the Newsan which went away in 2009, the Newsan New draws inspiration from classic racing leather jackets but adds technological innovations that not only enhance performance but also give it an updated visual appeal. Dainese has absolutely been one of, if not the sole, leaders in the the technical motorcycle apparel realm for decades, and the Newsan New continues this tradition and their exceptional attention to detail and quality in each of their releases.

Getting right into the features of this leather jacket, the shell utilizes Dainese's D-Skin leather. D-Skin uses Dainese's proprietary tanning process of cowhide, and results in values of 60% greater tensile strength (tear resistance) and 80% greater abrasion resistance than traditional untreated cowhide leather. They then apply a special silicone and wax treatment that gives the D-Skin a soft and supple finish. S1 stretch paneling can be found running along the inner arms and at the backs of the shoulders which aids not only in uninhibited mobility but also helps flow air into the Newsan New. Accordion stretch leather panels above the backs of the elbows ensure comfort and flexibility when getting into the aggressive riding position.

At the elbows, non-removable CE rated armor protects the elbow and extends to the forearm for a solid amount of coverage. There is a pocket at the back for a Dainese Wave G Back Protector if you want to boost the back protection to the CE level. At the shoulders, co-injected CE rated armor can be found with aluminum sliders on top. Speaking to the futuristic vibe of this jacket, these sliders receive a special paint coating to match with the color of the jacket (there are multiple color options of the Dainese Newsan New Non-Perforated Leather Jacket). We like to call these the "ipod versions" of the Newsan. You can be confident that you're covered on the safety side of things. You'll find adjustability at the waist and collar for a customized fit.

Internally, one of our favorite features of the Newsan New is the 3D bubble liner. A relatively recent innovation, 3D bubble liners create microclimates within the jacket by morning a gap of air between the jacket and the skin. These tiny air pockets are able to regulate the temperature within the jacket, keeping you cooler when it's hot, and warmer when it's cold. We've heard ride reports from both RevZilla employees and our riding community of riding the Newsan in 90+ degree (F) weather with absolutely no problem thanks to the bubble liner. This is a big concern to riders in the Northeast and warmer climates in general.

Beyond the style of this jacket, which is borrowed straight from the classic racer jackets of yore, the technical features of the Phoenix really impress. The outer shell uses highly abrasion-resistant Monaco Performance cowhide, 500D and 1000D PWRShell stretch fabric for mobility and comfort, and the tightly-woven Dynax mesh that is great and flowing air but also will hold up extremely well against abrasion. The jacket is also safety stitched so the seams will hold up in a get-off situation, and REV'IT's constant attention to detail dictates that YKK zippers and spring-loaded snaps are found throughout. Internally, upgraded ProLife CE armor is used in the shoulders and elbows and the foam backpad is upgradeable to the Knox TP2 CE Back Protector.

Moving into some of the comfort features of this jacket, there is adjustability at the waist for cinching and stretch panels at the backs of the elbows that work with the PWRShell Stretch material for uninhibited range of motion in and out of the tuck position. The collar and cuffs are lined with a comfortable fabric and the liner is a comfort mesh that feels soft against the skin. There is both a short and long connection zipper in the Phoenix so it can basically be paired with any pants in the REV'IT! lineup. Finally, reflective detailing at the back will keep you seen in dark conditions. Protection, airflow, and a wicked style unseen in any other jacket are what define the standout REV'IT! Constructed from premium 1.3mm full-grain leather, the Alpinestars GP Plus Jacket is extremely supple and abrasion resistant. Large aramidic stretch panels line the inner arms and backs of shoulders for an unparalleled degree of mobility. The inner mesh liner features stretch inserts in the same areas that work in conjunction for flexibility, fit and comfort. Protection comes from CE rated Bio Armor in the shoulders and elbows that is removable and also adjustable for precision fit. The Alpinestars GP-R Leather Jacket is built from premium 1.3mm full-grain leather with a large perforation scheme the spans the front and back of the jacket for high airflow in hot weather riding. For protection, Alpinestars' proprietary CE rated bioarmor is used in the shoulders and elbows, and it is adjustable to ensure comfort and proper placement. There is PE protective foam in the chest and back, with compartments to upgrade to the Alpinestars CE Rated Bio Armor Back Protector and Alpinestars Bionic Chest Guards. Adjustability at the waist allows for a custom fit and Alpinestars' universal use of YKK zippers ensures all closures remain secure at all times. Subtle details like the comfort collar ensure all-day riding without any chafing or discomfort.

Scorpion Eternity Leather Jacket Review

An extremely high value-to-dollar ratio from Scorpion, the brand new Scorpion Eternity Leather Jacket is an excellent jacket for spirited street and aggressive sport riding. A full perforation scheme down the front and back of this jacket will keep you nice and cool in the heat of summer and ample protective elements will keep you safe in the most demanding of rides. Available in a muted style for the rider seeking subtly and also in a wild graphical version, the Scorpion Eternity Phantom Leather Jacket is a great choice for the sport rider for Spring 2011.

A premium 1.2-1.4mm top grain leather construction with CE rated SaS-Tec molecular level armor in the shoulders and elbows, the Eternity will keep you extremely protected on the road. SaS-Tec is a futuristic material that is soft and flexible against the body but upon impact becomes rigid and disperses the impact energy evenly across the armor piece; it's arguably one of the best armors available on the market. Topping this armor are co-injected aluminum sliders at both the shoulder and elbow which provide exceptional abrasion resistance and help to prevent tumbling in the unfortunate event of a crash. Lastly, the PE foam back pad is upgradeable to CE rated protection (Knox TP2 CE Back Protector).

For comfort, there are Kevlar stretch panels on the inner sleeves that allow both expansion and ventilation to pass through to the body, adding to the large perf scheme. Added mobility comes from accordion stretch leather panels at the backs of the elbows and shoulders for uncompromised movement in and out of the tucked position. The jacket has an Airguard windproof liner in addition to the removable EverHeat full-sleeved thermal liner to stretch into the colder temperatures. A nice feature of the liner is the knitted cuffs that act like a sweatshirt cuff, providing a snug fit against the wrist and acting as a wind block. Lastly, adjustability at the waist for a snug fit and a fleece-lined dongle that sits against the neck are nice creature comforts.

Dainese New Delmar Leather Jacket Review

One of the first video reviews we ever shot was of the Dainese New Delmar Leather Jacket. It was about a year and a half ago: the lighting, sound, and visuals were all of sub-par quality but we wanted to get the word out about one of our favorite jackets in the Dainese lineup. In spite of the terrible quality, the video has been a hit amongst the TeamZilla community so we decided to reshoot it with our new high-quality set-up. The Dainese New Delmar Perforated Leather Jacket is the premier racing jacket in the their lineup, loaded with high-end safety and performance features and a ton of creature comforts as well.

Redux:

Designed with the serious racer and trackday devotee in mind, the New Delmar has it all. Built from D-Skin leather, the Delmar bundles safety with comfort in the shell construction. D-Skin Leather is Dainese's proprietary leather tanning process, and scores off the charts in safety compared to regular cowhide: 60% greater tensile strength (essentially tear resistance) and 80% greater abrasion resistance. The advanced wax and silicon treatment given to the D-Skin also makes it extremely soft and supple. Inserts in S1 stretch fabric can be found at the inner arms for unrestricted movement and also airflow, while the bi-elasticated stretch leather at the backs of the elbows and at the shoulders allows comfort in the tuck position.

For protection from impact, Dainese's proprietary CE rated composite protectors can be found in the shoulder and the elbow/forearm, with a pocket at the back for a G-type back protector from Dainese. In addition, co-injected titanium shoulder sliders protect from abrasion in the event of a get-off-and-slide scenario. The aerodynamic speed hump provides another level of protection in a back slide situation, while the Neck 5 system provides support for the neck. Add all of this together, upgrade to a CE rated back protector, and you're looking at a jacket that offers the maximum amount of protection for spirited street riding, and the most demanding track days.

Let's talk airflow and comfort. The perforated version of this jacket obviously will flow more air with its strategic perf scheme, but both jackets feature zip-open air intakes at the chest and side of torso for added ventilation. The big deal here is the 3D bubble mesh liner, which is a three-dimensional mesh fabric that creates tiny pockets of air between the skin and the jacket. In turn, a microclimate is created which maintains the body's optimal temperature; in the heat, it'll keep you cooler, and in the cold it'll keep you warmer. The liner is also sanitized to keep the funk out. Adjustability at the waist and collar allow you to customize this fit of this jacket so it is perfectly snug on the track.

Another extremely technical racing leather jacket from Dainese, the brand new Dainese Rebel Leather Jacket is one of the most feature-rich street and track jackets in the Dainese lineup. Also available as the Dainese Rebel Non-Perforated Leather Jacket, there are few leather jackets that offer a higher degree of technicality in the Dainese lineup. And as always, you make no sacrifice in style, as Dainese gear truly pays as much attention to the design of their gear as they do the protective and performance elements.

The Rebel is a premium Italian cowhide leather chassis, complemented by S1 stretch fabric along the inner arms. In the perf version, there is a fully ventilated scheme of cowhide for maximum cooling on hot days. The S1 stretch fabric contributes to this cooling by allowing air to flow through; it also provides comfort and flexibility due to the nature of the material. While we're talking comfort and ergonomics, the bi-elasticated stretch panels, found at the backs of the elbows and under the arms wrapping to the backs of the shoulders, allow for a full range of motion when maneuvering on the racetrack. The collar also features an elasticated insert for a snug and comfortable fit against the neck. Airflow is furthered by the zip-open chest vents and
the zip-open side of torso vents.

Armor on the Rebel is some of the best that Dainese has to armor. The CE rated shoulder armor is a titanium slider welded to a hard part plastic base, all of which is backed by shock-absorbing foam. The elbow armor is CE rated and extends to the forearm, forming a highly protective cup. The back features two slots which can house any of Dainese's CE rated back protector inserts. At the chest, there is a pocket for the Dainese Thorax Chest Protector. Upgrading in these areas significantly improves the protective elements of this jacket. Temperfoam injected panels are strategically placed and give an added boost to the overall safety. Lastly, the aerodynamic speed hump also keeps the body off the ground in the event of a crash scenario.

For true Spring-Summer-Fall functionality, the Rebel also has a removable full-sleeved quilted thermal liner that can be utilized when the temperature dips. The mesh lining of the jacket is a NanoFeel liner, treated with silver ions for antibacterial, antimicrobial and sanitizing purposes. The Rebel has a 360º zip for track legality, four outer pockets, two internal pockets, and reflective ticks in strategic locations. The Alien fills the need in the Dainese line for a classic-styled leather jacket whose performance matches its sporty look. Comfort, technicality, performance and style all come together in the Dainese Alien, which fits a step above the Dainese Racing Leather Jacket and a step below the features of the Dainese Rebel Leather Jacket in their lineup of aggressive street and track leathers.

The Dainese Alien Leather Jacket is constructed from Dainese's proprietary premium D-Skin leather. D-Skin offers significantly higher tensile strength and abrasion resistance than traditional cowhide, and it is also treated with a special silicone and wax treatment for superior softness. The Alien features S1 stretch fabric that runs the length of the inner arms, providing comfort, mobility and airflow. Speaking of ventilation, the standard version of this jacket has a full perf scheme but there is also a Dainese Alien Non-Perforated Leather Jacket available for riders in milder climates. Inside, Dainese's 3D Bubble Liner is used; by creating tiny pockets of air between the skin and the jacket, a microclimate is created within the jacket, allowing hot air to escape in the
summer, but keeping warmth close to the skin in the colder months.

For protection, CE rated co-injected armor is used in the shoulders, an aluminum slider welded to a hard plastic cup that is backed by shock absorbing foam. There is also CE rated armor in the elbows that extends down the forearm. The Alien features two pockets in the back that can house any of Dainese's proprietary back protection inserts. A brand new feature that we're starting to see more and more, the chest of this jacket features a pocket for the Dainese Thorax Chest Protector. Injuries to the chest are some of the most common in motorcycling; as a result, manufacturers are being more attentive to riders' desires for added protection in that area of a jacket. With the addition of optional back and chest protection, you can significantly
enhance the safety features of this jacket.

Some more of the features on this jacket include: S1 stretch paneling that wraps under the arms and to the backs of the shoulders for mobility when hitting the race position; a leather-rolled comfort collar; adjustability on each side of the waist, and at the neck; nubuck leather panels across the chest and at the outside of biceps for style; a fully sanitized antimicrobial liner to keep the inside of the jacket from getting musty; reflective paneling in strategic areas; two outside pockets and one internal pocket; and finally, temperfoam injected panels for added protection. This jacket also has a 360º zip for track legality and it is a great match for the Dainese Alien Leather Pants for track days or even sport touring applications.

Dainese Spring 2011 Leather Jacket Guide

Every Dainese loyalist is about to be extremely excited. Brand new for 2011, Dainese is releasing four new leather jackets, a new leather pant choice, and new colorways on an extremely popular leather staple of the Dainese lineup. While we have already shot a video review of the Dainese Cage Leather Jacket, we just recently were able to see the entirety of the new lineup and we will be rolling out all of our video reviews for the line in the near future. In the meantime, consider this a sneak preview, where you can see the reviews of the new leather jackets and pants. But in the meantime, first up is our Dainese Alien Leather Jacket Review:

The Dainese Alien Leather Jacket is a track-ready leather that utilizes Dainese's D-Skin Leather and a 3-D Bubble Mesh liner. A classically styled leather jacket that looks just as good walking around town as it does on the bike, the Dainese Tourage Leather Jacket is designed with the refined rider in mind, perfectly marrying motorcycle protection and sport touring performance with Italian fashion. The Tourage is designed to be comfortable in the upright or 3/4 position, with articulated panels that match this design. It utilizes a vintage cowhide for a soft feel and a classic appearance and suede lettering that screams vintage. CE rated armor in the shoulders and elbows with a pocket for CE back protection, the Tourage also has an antimicrobial and antibacterial sanitized lining.


Finally, our Dainese Alien Leather Pants Review:

The Dainese Alien Leather Pants are the perfect match for the Dainese Alien Leather Jacket, forming a track-ready combo or simply a protective and comfortable sport touring outfit. The Aliens use D-Skin leather, more abrasion resistant and higher tensile strength than cowhide, and also extremely comfortable. They also feature large S1 stretch panels for comfort, mobility and airflow in the lower back, back of the knees, and crotch and inner leg area. CE rated armor in the knees with large foam hip protectors, a sanitized NanoFeel liner system, and reflective inserts for visibility. The Alien pants also have a double calf zip, one for expansion and calf size accommodation, and one as a closure. The 360º zip connects these pants to any race-legal leather jacket.
